With my older office unit finally biting the dust, I wound up replacing it with this model. This is my second purchase of this product. I picked up my other Transcend StoreJet 25 unit back in the spring of last year primarily to cover my photograph storage needs. What sold me on buying another one is the overall performance. Durability is a big factor too.

Out of the box this storage system packed with a 500GB external hard drive was up and running in no time. Its fitted with a one button setup on top of the unit. Simple to use, the drive can be set to remember the files/folders to store in the preferences folder. With the installed software package, scheduling backups and setting security levels is not that much of a task. File compression is always a good choice to remember. All in all, the jury is still out when it comes to the on board StoreJet software. Personally, I'm not a big fan of it. Firewire support for this model would have been ideal.

The StoreJet 25 is built around a standard 2.5 inch SATA hard disk that spins at 5,400 rotations per minute with 8MB of cache. Powered via USB port, the drive draws its juice directly from the host system. Speed read is rated up to 28 megs per second and write speeds cruised in at 24 megs. This system comes encased in a red/black or orange/black military grade, impact resistant shell. I use the black one for travel and this one for the office.

Built for portability, the unit measures 4.5" H x 3.2" W x 0.6" D. It weighs in at almost 8 ounces and comes with the standard Transcend 2 year product warranty. The manufacturer's website is surprisingly helpful and loaded with useful information. A toll free customer support phone number as well as supporting links are posted.

Like my previous purchase of this product, its all about overall performance. The StoreJet 25 is a durable and cost effective tool that has proven to me that it can go the distance.

The drive arrived in good shape and functions exactly as advertised. It is a very attractive, compact device and gives the appearance of being quite sturdy. It was easy to install. The only complaint I have is that the software that comes with the purchase is a little balky. The pop-up menus that appear whenever the drive is attached are annoying and serve very little purpose. One can get rid of most of these. I find using Norton for back-ups much more reasonable and certainly more straightforward. In any case, it seems to be a great drive and I am happy with the purchase. Unlike other external drives I have owned, this one is truly portable. I just throw it into my briefcase or bag and go. I use it with an ACER One Aspire 9.1 inch netbook without any issues.

This little hard drive has a nice look and feel. It works great. I was a little annoyed that it could only save 4 GB chunks, but then I reformatted it to NTFS with the included software and problem solved.
