This review is from: Transcendence (Audio CD)
Doppler Effect Records is an Oregon-based label that specializes in bringing the music of underground artists to the masses. Profit is not a motivation for this label - it's a true labor of love.

Because of this (and some might say, despite that), DFX releases albums that compare favorably against many others on the market. It does this by throwing conventions out the window - it doesn't pack together all big names or hit-makers; it just puts some deserving artists on a CD, and more often than not has success.

Such is the case with Transcendence. It collects some of the cult hits in the underground, from electro group Lateral Tension to EBM masters Noxious Emotion to funky IDM favorites ML, and packs the rest of the disc with up-and-coming acts.

These include Landscape Body Machine, with a strange percussive sound that doesn't fit into any known category; synthpop/EBM group OMNIbOX; and the wailing goth band, Pet of the Future (who sounds EXACTLY like The Cure here).

I was pleasantly surprised that an underground compilation impressed me so much. Few samplers, even those from major labels, interest me for very long - but this one is a keeper. It's a very nice summary of the best electro, EBM, and more in today's scene, making it an affordable "Who You Should Watch" for industrial music.
