"Africa's kids are some of the world's great heroes. This book gives them their due."
-- Spencer Reiss, former Southern Africa bureau chief, Newsweek
"Great photographs broaden the mind and touch the soul -- and that is exactly what
Transcendent Spirit does."
-- Gerd Ludwig, Photographer of the Year, 2006 International Photography Awards
"When you look through the pages of
Transcendent Spirit you realize that this is what photography was invented for. Douglas Menuez's images have the power to take you to worlds you have never known, introduce you to people you have yet to meet, and make you care about them. Words could not do that; video could not do that. The transcendent spirit requires a transcendent medium to adequately portray the scale of its tragedies and triumphs. The still camera in the hands of a superb craftsman can, and Menuez has done so with a grace and sensitivity that dignifies not only his subjects, but humanity itself."
-- Peter Howe, author Shooting Under Fire, and Paparazzi, former Director of Photography, LIFE Magazine, former Picture Editor, New York Times Magazine.
