This review is from: Transcending Psych (Haworth Psychotherapy) (Paperback)
Bynum's work is the highest level of scholarship imaginable. Its somewhat fascinating how effortlessly he moves from Developmental Psychology to Psychoanalysis, Pyschospirituality and other branches of 'Mind Studies', if you will. One of things he does superbly is take prior theories, dismantle them, then explicate why they are myopic and insufficient. I found this book extremely informative and was quite impressed by Bynum's spiritual positivist approach. There's a dialectical relationship in those two words, but that's the genius of this book. Its not a bunch of hocus pocus, its ethereal logic. The subtitle is perfect as well. African people are in desperate need of a new approach to personality development. I've read a few of his other books and they are magnificent, however, I think this may be his best work to date.
