Stunning,
By Piano Fan (London, UK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Piano Transcriptions (Audio CD)
A superb disc full of pianistic treasures. The Bach is immaculately played and a real testament to the pianist's skills as transcriber (sadly a dying art nowadays).
Faultless technique and a full, rich sound make the performances vibrant, alive and deeply felt. Highly recommended - rarely leaves my cd player. I only wish there were more recordings out there by Sato.

A Transcription-lover's dream,
By D. C. (Bloomington, IN) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Piano Transcriptions (Audio CD)
These fabulous transcriptions are in the long tradition of such works established by the likes of Busoni and Godowsky. Those who enjoy Alkan, Bach, Liszt and Franck will enjoy this disc. This recording features the sort of incredible pianistic virtuosity that one associates with the likes of Volodos and Hamelin. The Bach and Liszt transcriptions feature great subtlety of interpretation, and considerable fidelity to the essence of the originals. The affection the performer-composer feels for his sources comes through both in the quality of the transcription--and the beauty of the performance. The Franck Transcription is a rare gem--I don't believe I've heard it before--one wouldn't have thought it possible, and yet here it is!
