Excerpt from the opening pages...

Chapter 505

Prelude with the Author

If you've read from page one, then you've covered the reviews (I'm
very thankful for these wonderful words!), acknowledgments (I
hope I didn't leave anyone out), and an amazing foreword by Ralph
Marston. Ralph Marston, The Daily Motivator, in my book, can you
believe that?

But before you go any further, I just wanted to say something.
Let's pretend the two of us have run into one another and you've
informed me you're getting ready to read my book. If we spent a few
minutes discussing what you're about to read, here's what I would say:
This isn't a typical how-to type of weight loss book. I spent my
childhood growing into the habits and behaviors contributing to my
morbid obesity, and then I spent nearly twenty years of adulthood--
near, at, or above 500 pounds. To better understand the dynamics
involved, it was necessary to start at the beginning. This analytical
exploration has been a critical element in embracing my personal truth
and was what I needed to do in order to really break free. Again, this
isn't a typical weight loss book.

If you want, you could skip to the last part of the book and
experience more of a how-to type of explanation. But something
important to remember is this: To fully understand the philosophies
and approach that worked for me, the entire story is relevant. It is my
story, my methods, my way. And you may or may not relate to or find
my approach to be doable for you, and that's fine. We're all different,
yet the same in many ways. One thing is certain, there are many
successful paths to freedom. In this book, you just might find some
similarities between us. And in those similarities, you could possibly
gain clarity toward your own road out of whatever is holding you back
from what you truly desire.

You may have found this book listed under "weight loss," or "selfhelp,"
or "health," because it's about me and my experiences. But it's
not only about weight loss. The recipe for freedom from my food
addiction and compulsive or emotional eating, and the resulting
obesity, is a recipe that can be adapted to fit you and your situation.

When I speak or write about "choosing change before change chooses
you,"
it's certainly not exclusively about weight loss. It's about living
the life you passionately desire and making the choices that put you in
the best position to achieve those dreams.

I've always been a dreamer and I've always been fascinated by
irony. In my wildest dreams, I never once imagined my morbidly
obese life could be turned inside out, and now, the very thing
determined to kill me, has transformed into a passionate desire to
spend the rest of my life shining a light on a road many of us travel.

Thank you for taking the time to read the next thirty-six chapters. I
hope you'll share your thoughts with me afterward when we run into one
another again.

Or just send me an email to sean@transformationroad.com

Are you ready? The next exit is chapter one. Happy travels. . .

Sean A. Anderson

About the Author

Going against the grain of the weight loss industry, Sean A. Anderson has lost the kind of weight you would expect from a weight loss reality show contestant, but he's never been on such a show.  Still, he's lost more weight than any Biggest Loser TV show contestant, and he's done it and maintained it, in the real world, with real life stress and with real food.  In his debut book, "Transformation Road-My Trip To Over 500 Pounds and Back," Sean takes us along for the ride to and from this monumental weight, and he does it without the typical offerings of a 33 billion dollar a year industry.

Sean Anderson was born and raised in Oklahoma, and now lives not far from where he grew up in Stillwater.  He's a proud father of two daughters, Amber and Courtney. His broadcasting career spans more than two decades, with a "sub-career" as a stand-up comedian, taking him all the way to the stage of the world famous Hollywood Improv and ABC Television's "Jimmy Kimmel Live."

Today, Sean devotes much of his time writing and speaking about the dynamics involved in his dramatic transformation. His simple, yet powerful call, to "choose change before change chooses you," has resonated with people all over the world, and has become the foundation of this former 500 pound man's passionate new career path.

More About the Author

Sean A. Anderson was a pioneer in the world of childhood obesity long before those two words were ever put together. After an obese childhood, Sean spent the next twenty years near, at, or above 500 pounds. "Transformation Road," takes readers along for the ride, all the way to over 500 pounds, before turning around for an amazing trip to freedom. Sean's writing career started on Day one of his 275 pound weight loss journey, when he started his weight loss blog, "The Daily Diary of a Winning Loser." Sean resides not far from his hometown of Stillwater, Oklahoma. A broadcaster for twenty-four years, Sean is successfully transitioning from being a radio personality to a successful writer and speaker.

I think this book will doo well . I commend Amazon for selling it. My journey started at 320lbs and now after 20 months I am at 205 . My goal is 180 but I could live at 205. I have not seen 205 in over 20 yrs. Thank you Sean.

I could not put the book down...Sean's honesty and willingness to bare his soul created a context that I have not seen in many books before. I found myself relating to, laughing, crying with, and wanting to hear more from Sean. The way Sean wrote the book was very thought provoking, and I plan to read it several more times to take it all in. There are many diet books around, but this is a live-it book, and Sean spells out how to create a life from honesty and hard work. I applaud Sean for sharing the most intimate parts of his life, and for giving us all an opportunity to see what is possible! I have purchased several books for friends who are on their own journey with weightloss, and I will continue to use the tools I have learned from Sean. Looking forward to seeing what is next!Cheers Sean!

If you are thinking that this is just another diet book, guess again. Sean Anderson is a master a painting the painful story of food addiction, obesity and then his miraculous journey back to a healthy body size. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants and needs real motivation, that they can do it too. Even if you aren't suffering from a weight problem yourself, Sean is an excellent writer and this reads like a solved murder mystery!

On one level, this book is about addiction to food and one man's amazing journey to a healthy body weight from over 500 pounds. On another level, this book is about the path to ANY addiction and a way out. The author describes the comfort taken in retreating into an addiction in a way that will speak to anyone struggling with a dependency, food or otherwise. He really understands and decribes the elements that drive a person to seek that comfort from the harsh realities of the world. But, in addition, he details the joys of freeing yourself from those dependencies. I could not put this book down and it has given me the courage to make some very positive changes in my own life; changes that I have been struggling to make for years.

Just finished this book. I had discovered Sean's blog a few months ago and had expected the book to be a copy of that. Not at all! Sean gives the most honest and compelling witness to the courage of the human spirit. His total honesty comes through on every page. Also his very real passion and desire to tell the world that you do not have to live a life of morbid obesity. A wonderful and inspiring read from a wonderful human being. Thank you Sean!

Sean Anderson provides a strong dose of hope in recounting his captivating journey to self-acceptance and health. His road to transformation was not easy, but few things in life are that are worth it. Sean reminds us that your biggest bully is often yourself and that you can change your "mix tape in your head" by becoming your own "captain".
This book demonstrates that the only thing that can make us feel good about ourselves is to realize our own self-worth, and to finally LOVE ourselves.
I constantly see patients struggling to make the mental shift required to commit to change and make good choices for their health. Whether you are struggling with weight loss, addiction, and self-acceptance or whether you are just looking to be inspired to finally commit to change and making good choices - this is the book for you.

Transformation Road is a must read for anyone who suffers with the struggle of food addiction. I really identify so much with Sean's story as it really spoke to my heart and soul. As Sean would say, it spoke my language. I really loved everything about this book because it was not a "diet" book, rather a book of the life of one man who suffered a lifelong struggle with obesity related issues due to his food addiction and how once he "decided" to choose change before change chose him, amazing things began to happen.

Sean shares exactly how he transformed every facet of his life from a man who was not long for this world to someone that is now living a vibrant, healthy life at a normal weight. Transformation Road made me laugh and cry and most importantly feel that I too could change my life. This is a story of hope. Bravo Sean! Thank you so much for sharing and inspiring so many.

I started reading Sean's blog I found online about a year and a half ago... I knew I was hooked, and then I had to see if he was on FB and I became a friend. His morning posts on FB always helped me set the "tone" for my day! Then, when his book came out. How joyous I was to get it! Beautiful cover and back cover. I feel like I know this guy even more so after reading this fantastic book! He doesn't know me well, but I do know him! It's impossible not to know this guy through this book. It's personal, intimate, deeply thought provoking. The words just oozes through your heart, making you relate exactly to what he's going through... making you laugh and cry! It's just the "relating" to his obesity and to his weight loss journey that makes you feel like you're reading your own "story" that you didn't have the heart/the will to finish or even "start" - and what it could eventually be! I've lost 21 pounds in the last 3 months, and I will continue to lose the rest of the pounds I need to lose. He's inspirational and easy to talk to on FB... add him as a friend, and get this book... it'll cause you to rethink about how you're going to lose weight "THIS TIME"! This isn't a book on "how to" lose weight... it's a book that INSPIRES you to want to lose weight! His thoughts in the book just sets a "tone" (an inner change within yourself) to your own weight loss journey. You have to get the book to understand what I'm saying here... once you buy and read it. You'll understand! Just buy it! You won't regret it! I've encouraged Sean to write a recipe book, and I hope he will do that soon! Thank you Sean for this great book! I'll definitely be re-reading this again! This time with a highlighter in hand! :0)
