5.0 out of 5 stars Hope and Good Feelings
I have been looking to Sark for guidance since I was fifteen and that was seven years ago. Her earlier works brought laughter, fun, and courage to be different and enjoy it. However I think this book is my favorite. She gets warmer and more honest with each new thing she gets published. Her words on sickness, self image, and "healings gone wrong" are wonderful...

2.0 out of 5 stars buy a different SARK book (not this one)
I LOVE SARK. I do. She is a source of much inspiration and I bought my first book many years ago. That's why when in the 158 section of the library I saw her name on the spine and thought "oh good" and took it home.

I would really like to give it more than 2 stars but can't. It's just too disjointed. Too filled with reading lists of other books instead of...

I have been looking to Sark for guidance since I was fifteen and that was seven years ago. Her earlier works brought laughter, fun, and courage to be different and enjoy it. However I think this book is my favorite. She gets warmer and more honest with each new thing she gets published. Her words on sickness, self image, and "healings gone wrong" are wonderful. Each story can be familiar, illuminating, and hopeful. Her words can be reminders or they can change your view into something new and wonderful ( SARK tricks you into this by making her books colorful and fun to look at!) Troubling issues loose there severity and you are woven in a warm cocoon with all the other women who are feeling the same things and working on similar issues. I love this book! Thank you SARK you are definitely a "beacon of hope"

5.0 out of 5 stars Transformation Soup, September 4, 2000

I am so grateful to have this book. I'm reading it not all at once, but in snipets when I need a friend and some inspiration. With her stories, SARK gives us an idea of what it's like to really look at our lives, to discover what it is inside of us that needs healing, and how to begin. It's a daunting process that requires tenderness. This is a wonderful, gentle book. What a relief! I feel that taking steps toward healing requires so much courage, and SARK en-courages me.

These are real stories from this woman's life. After I read a chapter, I feel like I've just spent two hours sitting with a best friend in a coffee shop, crying over life's current struggles and laughing over the past ones. And at the end of the two hours, I have some new ideas about how to face my dilemmas and, most importantly, I have the renewed sense that I'm not alone with my fears, my mistaken attempts at healing, or my weariness.

SARK's books fill me with hope and laughter. I also LOVE that she recommends other inspiring fiction, nonfiction, and poetry books at the end of each chapter. This book is a companion to cherish -- give yourself the gift of some self-nurturing and buy it. While you're at it, get a copy for your best friend, and for anyone you know who wants to enrich her own life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wildly Inspirational, May 16, 2000
This review is from: Transformation Soup: Healing for the Splendidly Imperfect (Paperback)
After years of reading all of SARK's books, I finally got to meet her in person when she came to Denver, CO for the booksigning of Transformation Soup. The term "We are all indelibly connected" is what resonated with me the most. Sometimes we feel as if we are alone and struggling like a lonely ship at sea. Whether we are facing career challenges, family issues or health concerns - this book is a delightfully WILD read for the soul.

5.0 out of 5 stars Title says it all so well, April 6, 2003

Ok I admit that I was attracted to this book (I own all her books) because of Chapter on Bodies and the topic of Why Do We Care About Chin Hairs. My late Mother in Law whom I idolized would sit and pluck her chin hairs as she watched television. And SARK points out that the reason some people care so much is because of the preoccupation society has with "looks". My mother in laws chin hair simply served as a reminder that we as human animals have hair in places we wish we didn't and have no hair in places we wished we did.

Her chapter on page 66 Food And Where It Leads Us speaks of the love hate relationship some people have with food. People who meet me say I look like a cross between the fairy godmother in the Disney Cinderella and some wild mountain woman. I am not thin I am not fat I am plump and like myself, even though I am always trying to improve on myself for ME which is what SARK talks about.

The whole book I must say is full of wisdom and fun and is a book I read and read and re-read and glean new wisdom from each time. There is something I believe in all sincerity, for every woman who reads the book.

great book for women going through a divorce, as it teaches us to flow with life and nurture our selves, in ways this culture rarely gives permission for. sometimes at night it's good to turn off the tv and just take the sark journey. she really is amazing, in that she has made art/writing out of self expression and she encourages others to find their growth and creative side. healing is an overused word, but this book gives you real methods, not to mention blessed permission.

This review is from: Transformation Soup: Healing for the Splendidly Imperfect (Paperback)
Sark's books make me twirl in the moment and dance with the beauty of the world. I totally love her incredible insight and magical messages. Her newest book, Transformation Soup is brilliant, filled with smiles and love, and makes my eyes sparkle in joy. Just flipping the colorful pages fills my heart with healing. Her books are about finding the inner child within yourself and then letting yourself truly live in the moment and that is such a beautiful message of hope for all of us. Sark, you are one incredible woman and a natural healer.

SARK's work always inspires me to live my life with more adventure, joy and color. This time she gave me something even more. Self-acceptance! Her hilarious accounts of being "splendidly imperfect" remind me of how wonderful and endearing it is to be human and that we are not alone on our journeys. I highly reccommend this book to anyone looking for a more joyous life!

I accidentally became acquainted with Sark's books when a friend gave me one of her calendars. I was stunned by the artwork because it looked as if a child had done it, but the little sayings were so wise. I absolutely adored that calendar! So naturally, I explored books by Sark. One of her favorite words is succulent--she wrote a whole book about it and every word was interesting. She takes herself to task, chides herself, admits she cries and feels fury--A LOT--but also goes into her brutal childhood, her fights and wonderful discussions with her brother, her incredibly complex relationship with her mother--in other words, Sark chronicles LIFE in all its pain and joy. Transformation Soup is essentially about healing ourselves and how we must get beyond the past events in our lives which cripple us and hold us prisoner. Truly, I loved every word of this book (it especially speaks to middle-aged women, I think) and have read it three times. Sark is extremely honest and forthcoming in all her books, but she really did save her best for Transformation Soup. Sark is a compelling artist and writer and I pick up her books when I feel low or confused and they do help so much. I cannot say enough superlatives in describing the books written and illustrated by Sark. She uses simple language and helps you reach deep inside--she helps you help yourself.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mixed feelings, but I still love Sark!, March 4, 2001
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Transformation Soup: Healing for the Splendidly Imperfect (Paperback)
While it pains me to say it, there were times when I was reading "Transformation Soup" when I felt cheated. Having discovered Sark through "Succulent Wild Woman" and having found that book to be gloriously uplifting, funny and helpful from first page to last, I found myself disappointed by the first half of "Transformation Soup." Just about the time I was thinking this, the book started to turn around for me. By the time I finished it, I was back in the same warm, blessed and happy place I was when I read "Succulent."

Thank goodness we have a world with Sark in it.

5.0 out of 5 stars healing with grace and laughter, October 16, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Transformation Soup: Healing for the Splendidly Imperfect (Paperback)
SARK's books have always hit a genuine spot inside of me-ever since I discovered her "How To Be An Artist" poster before her books were even out. There is so much information out there about self-discovery and healing but SARK brings grace and laughter to these sometimes terrifying truths we live. Her work connects with people in their hearts and that is so much more than most books give. You feel a certain spirit when you read her books and see her artwork. They stay with you and you remember how wonderful it is to have brief moments of grace and how it feels to not be alone in your struggles. This and more are the reasons I will always look to SARK's work for help, healing and inspiration. Have you checked out her website campsark.com, there's an amazing message board that is a true testament to SARK's influence and support of women everywhere! Viva SARK.
