A Masterpiece of Depression-era Wall St. History,
By bubba kazoo "bubbakazoo" (Denver, CO USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Transformation of Wall Street, Third Edition (Hardcover)
This is a great work of historical research on Wall Street that reads like a novel. The time period concerned is the end of the Roaring Twenties continuing through the Great Depression. As the public outrage grows to find the causes of, and the men responsible for the Stock Market Crssh become more strident, politicians and attorneys come forth to investigate. And the characters that come forth are very real, and very interesting. On the opposite side, the financiers are also very interesting, although they don't believe that they share any responsibility for their actions, or the results of same. Similarities between characters in this book, and the major players from the last Wall Street Crisis make the latter much more understandable. Some archetypes are a part of the American Society, and Wall Street itself. I haven't found a book like this one; it stands alone in the depth and breath of the era addressed within. To find it still available is quietly reassuring. |
