Editorial Reviews

Review

From the very first sounds of Bill Cunliffe s compositions, one s soul becomes deeply calmed. Then begins a gentle transformational journey from feelings of serenity and divine companionship to joyful swaying and praise to tears of release and healing to a newfound confidence that one is empowered to go into the world to make it as beautiful as the music one has just heard. We at All Saints, Pasadena, have been fortunate to receive the singular talents of Bill Cunliffe in our worship. Now, with profound gratitude, we celebrate that others through this recording can benefit from this musical strength for the journey. --Rev. Ed Bacon, Rector, All Saints Church

4.0 out of 5 stars Unusual for Bill Cunliffe February 28, 2013
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
Being a fan of Bill Cunliffe's jazz collections, this album was a surprisingly pleasant diversion. Huge and fabulous choir that helps paint a completely unusual sound for Bill Cunliffe's trio. While I still prefer his jazz sounds, this is a nice tribute to his versatility.

4.0 out of 5 stars ethereally jazzy, or jazzily ethereal August 3, 2012
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
this CD reminds me a bit of something the late great vince guaraldi did for bishop james pike and the episcopalian church back in the 60s, when he jazzed up the choral eucharist with his trio, at grace cathedral. but bill cunliffe used an even greater ensemble [in terms of size and scope] to take liturgical music way beyond the point where guaraldi left off. the sound quality is pristine, but i didn't like a few abrupt fades here and there. all in all, a B+ effort.
