Once in a great while, a major thinker emerges and presents us with insights into our civilization. Lewis Mumford, in this work, it a prime example of such an outstanding contribution to our understanding of ourselves. The book reveals "by what cunning and daring, by what dreaming and searching, man discovered the germs of his own humanness and nurtured them." This is one of most outstanding explorations into the cultural, ideological, and technological dimensions of civilization. It is a classic! A towering accomplishment of thought-provoking insights.
