This review is from: Transformers Animated Blackarachnia (Toy)
Blackarachnia returns in a sweet animated version with sweet detail in robot and spider mode that is a must have for any transformer fan!The realistic look of the spider mode is excellent as is the robot mode.Blackarachnia is one of my favorites and this figure is one of the best versions done. She comes with a auto-retracting web line as a cool feature for when this sexy, but deadly female needs to land a suprise attack or escape to fight another day.The transformation is advanced meaning if you have plenty of experience with transformers there is medium difficulty. If you are a parent buying for a child of 5-6 or younger some help might be required in the transforming process. Some parts of the process can be tricky,so just have some patience and after some practice they should be able to get the hang of it.The poseability for acting out battle scenes or displaying is excellent as well. The durability is an A++ for spider or robot modes.Honestly this is one of the best looking female versions of a transformer you are gonna find.Bottom line Blackarachnia is a well-made,high quality,10 out of 10 figure all transformer fans should enjoy.Blackarachnia is the best decepticon female transformer of all time in my opinion and this figure helps in making this true!Transformers Rule!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is a great toy! And I'm speaking from not just a fan point of view, but as someone who'd recommend a toy to a parent who was thinking of getting this figure. Although, this recommendation also comes with another recommendation...the parents must watch their kid and help them out if they get stuck and start becoming frustrated.Like I said this one can be a challenge to transform properly, so be patient and breathe. When I transformed it correctly, I was not only relieved, but I felt very satisfied! In robot mode, it is nice and attractive (it's better looking than all the supposed female Transformer action figures to date - and it actually looks like a female!). It also looks a lot like the cartoon character. Not to mention, the figure is highly posable. I thought they could've gone a few small steps further to really make kids and fans alike, wet their pants out of joy in this department - but it's good enough, I guess. The head, neck, waist, shoulder joints, elbow joins, hip joints, knee joints, and toe joints all work fine. The only issue I had was that in robot mode, the hands couldn't move at all. Another mention about the robot hands.... They cannot be hidden away when transforming into spider mode. So, for all those people who do mind the robot hands being in plain sight in spider mode underneath the third pair of legs, this may be an eyesore for you. In spider mode, the mandibles (the black mouth parts), the pedipalps (the purple mouth parts), first pair of legs, third pair of legs, fourth pair of legs, and abdomen (the spider's purple back end) are all posable. The only issue here is that the second pair of legs isn't as posable as the rest of her spider legs, they just move up and down from the swivel joint that connects the first pair and second pair of spider legs onto the spider's cephalothorax (spider head). Whereas all the other spider legs are able to move all their joints. The sharp ends of the spider's legs are actually made of a softer plastic than the rest of the figure so as to minimize injury to anyone who may be handling it a bit rough. There are absolutely no problems with loose joints. For the most part if transformed correctly most of the joints will not pop off. This is what I mean... When transforming from spider mode to robot mode, the spider's pedipalps (the small purple mouth parts in spider mode) are tricky to maneuver and position correctly without it accidentally popping off. However, once you get used to it there're no problems. Manipulating the pedipalps (purple mouth parts) requires patience, but doesn't take too long to figure out (a kid may have a hard time with this, so all you adults have got to supervise your children to help them out when they get peeved or impatient). A word of advise, the adults must be patient when working with the small pedipalps as well, it's in a tight spot so just relax and work with it. Do understand that if the pedipalps (purple mouth parts) do come off, they're pretty small, so I don't recommend leaving a child who likes to put play things in their mouth alone with this toy. I highly recommend just slowly and gently twisting the pedipalps around and try not to force them into position when the joints will not allow them to. For the most part, the difficulty with transforming Blackarachnia is that in mid-transformation, everything seems to get in the way of each other. However, with some patience and careful manipulation of the parts everything can be worked out without anything popping off. Just chill and breathe. There's no timer to time how fast anyone can transform the toy from one mode to the next, take your time and it will happen. I've found the toy to be rather well balanced, and I've had no problems with standing it up. The figure's "feet" appear small, but if you think of them as the figure's toes, and that she's wearing pumps, you'll understand how to stand the thing up correctly. Here's what I mean about the feet being the toes: In robot mode, Blackarachnia literally looks like she's wearing high heels. Her shin guards extend outwards. So the tiny little appendages that people might think are her feet are actually not her feet, but rather they're her toes. The back end becomes the heel of the pumps. In other words, she's standing on her toes and heels, as if she were wearing pumps. I found the retractable grappling hook that's able to attach and detach from the spider's abdomen (her back end) to be a nice gimmick, and was rather fun to play around with. There are no mechanical issues that I'm aware of. The grapples can actually hold onto something. For fun, I attached the grapple onto a little knob on the beaded chain that turns on the lights on my night stand. It held on for hours, (essentially it won't fall off). It is also able to attach and detach onto her back between her shoulders onto the back of the little black appendage below her robot head that has the Decepticon insignia on it. The grappling hook also attaches on the inside of both her robot forearms. In spider mode, I've not had a problem standing her up on all eight spider legs as well. Most of the legs are pretty posable, (except the second pair of legs towards the spider's mouth parts like I mentioned above). I'd like to add that when transforming from spider mode to robot mode, the spider's purple abdomen (the purple back end of the spider) can snap into place onto the back side of Blackarachnia's waist in robot mode. That's right, it doesn't have to dangle like it's out of place. Another thing is that while transforming from spider mode to robot mode, you will see a little black rectangular peg that resembles the belt of a tank's wheels right above the purple midriff of Blackarachnia, (no I'm not referring to her crotch which is also black, but has a red hourglass and four red bars, it's not this). Well, when you snap her chest in place with her midriff, the black spider mandibles (black spider mouth parts) can lock into place right on top of this black rectangular piece above the purple midriff. This will make her robot abdominal "muscles" look long, lean, and tight (she has a tight "four pack"). Her purple spider pedipalps (purple spider mouth parts) will then fit into the angles on either side of her robot abdominal "muscles" forming her robot oblique "muscles". The little appendages that attaches her purple spider abdomen (purple spider back end) onto her robot waist will also prevent the purple spider pedipalps (the purple spider mouth parts) from moving any further back. It's a pretty tight transformation from spider to robot mode and vice versa. There shouldn't be any loose parts, parts that look out of place, or dangling parts. Robot mode is also very posable. Almost every joint moves (her hands don't), and her waist can twist from side to side in a somewhat limited range of motion. I had issues with the limited range of motion in her elbow joints, but other than that, there's no issue here. Overall, I like it. It is aesthetically pleasing (and for the most part, anatomically correct for a character who's supposed to look like a woman), fun to play with, and challenging to transform, while teaching me (and quite possibly all the parents and their children) the all too important lessons of patience and breathing. If I can give it a grade. I'd give it an A-. They only get the A+ for really getting in there and making this character 100% posable (which I think is totally possible; I feel like they copped out of going the extra mile to make an unbeatable toy), finding a way to cover the bottom portion of Blackarachnia's abdomen to hide her robot head and cover up the detachable grappling hook while she's in spider mode, connecting the little neck portion of black plastic that has the Decepticon insignia where the head joint is attached into her clavicle in robot mode (that little gap between her chest and her neck can be an eyesore if you're nitpicking), and for being able to find a way to hide the robot hands while in spider mode. And making the hands posable. There you all go. Hope this was an entertaining and informative review for the product.

This review is from: Transformers Animated Blackarachnia (Toy)
I'm not a huge Transformers fan anymore. Oh, I used to be. Until a few years ago I had over 120 TF's. Eventually I go tired of them and sold them on eBay. Since then I haven't had any real interest in them, though I did enjoy the movie, despite Michael Bay's involvement.Back when I collected the toys, I also watched the programs. "Beast Wars" was my flat-out favorite and one of my favorite characters on the show was Blackarachnia. As a result, I was quite pleased when I found out they'd made a new toy of her. Though I hadn't bought any TF's since about 2003, I gave in and bought her (and six others... the mania begins...). This toy is quite impressive! It works well in both spider forms and robot forms. It's much better made than the previous versions of the character, especially the "Beast Machines" version that had either feet that were about half the character's body length in size, or were tiny points the toy couldn't stand up on. The only flaws I can really find with it are that the legs don't really support the body that well and the little grappling hook device doesn't stick well to either the robot or spider form. Still and all, I was quite pleased with the toy! I don't think I'll start really getting back into TF collection, but this one at least was quite nice and worth buying.
