4.0 out of 5 stars Not your parents' Transformers
My son (5) loves Transformers, even though he hasn't seen the recent movie. He enjoys playing with this toy very much and he can transform it from plane to robot and back again without help. (I still need to look at the instructions.) The main complaint I have is that the arm continually falls off. It is a ball-and-socket joint, and easily reattached, but it won't stay...

(I still need to look at the instructions.) The main complaint I have is that the arm continually falls off. It is a ball-and-socket joint, and easily reattached, but it won't stay and doesn't withstand even the gentlest manipulation.

By comparison, he still plays with a number of Transformers dug out of the basement from my childhood, and they seem to be much more durable.

My son got this toy for Christmas. He loves it. I received it on time and in good order. Like any transformer, it comes apart more easily than I would like, but overall it is a good toy. It does have two removable pieces if you don't like parts that get lost! Overall, it has been a sucessful purchase.

Overcast is a really fun toy. My 4 year old loves it. Who doesn't love two cannon shooters that actually propel blasters? You have to be careful with the shooters if you have smaller kids and teach your kids not to aim at peoples faces. It was easy enough to transform and even though my 4 year old can't do it all by himself yet, I see him learning it quickly. This was his first transformer and he can get the legs, arms, and head somewhat in place. Not bad for a first transformer.

This is another transformer that isn't too hard but is lots of fun. It has held up to frequent transformations and the boys really enjoy it.

It started off fun, but after 15 minutes the Transformer's (I bought two) were in a million pieces and nobody knew how to get them back together. I am going to trash them this week and it was really a waste of money all around. maybe a genuis could assemble it, but I don't think the average person could do it without a struggle.

I bought this for my son on his 7th birthday and I have to admit, that having been an avid transformer fan since they came out... I am disappointed with the quality of this particular toy.

First of all, transforming him is not a simple task, I was able to do it with a little forcing (which should not have been required) but the alignment of the legs has to be perfect to get him back into plane form. My 7 year old is lacking in the motor skills so the legs have been reattached several times. Also the arms are held on by ball and socket joints that pop out if you move them in the wrong direction, granted you can pop them back in... but after about the 15th time you will find yourself considering superglue.

My biggest personal complaint is that when transformed into humanoid form:
A- he doesn't look much like a human
B- he wont stand on his own
and
C- his head won't come all the way up and stay that way

The Transformers of my childhood looked like men when turned into men, most of them would stand up with a little help, and you NEVER had parts that fell off. The quality and over all feel of this toy is not up to the standards of the originals (that and remember the originals were five dollars? a kid could conceivably buy one on their own!)

As a parent, you know that no matter how junky the toy is... you're going to end up having to buy it in the end... just be aware that this is not one of the best constructed toys out there and is in no way the quality of the old school transformers.

What is the most exciting present for a six year old nephew?

A Transformer, of course.

This toy was a good value, and will be very well received at Christmas. Our nephew is totally into Transformers, and Amazon offers an extensive choice of reasonably priced Transformers.

Thanks, Amazon.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fun, but too hard to transform!, November 30, 2008

My 5 year old got this for his birthday. He loves it, but he depends on my husband and I to transform it. My husband had Transformers as a kid, so he can figure it out a little better than I can, but still has trouble. Both of us are quite technically adept and it takes both of us several attempts to transform it even though we've done it many times.

3.0 out of 5 stars a decent transformer, October 5, 2008
= Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:2.0 out of 5 stars

Well to start, this guy is pretty durable, dispite it's skinny build and cheaper plastic mold, it seems to have been made well. The transformation is fairly easy and fluent. Some things that bother me are his "hands" and "face",or lack of them. At first it was different, it was one of the reasons I bought this, it reminded me of the great shockwaves unique face. But after awhile it got boring, its has little articulation and seems like it was a cop-out, instead of making a real face. The "hands" are just the thrusters, which open up, which is kinda lame. As you can see, the coloring is great, though alittle unrealistic. The jet mode is nice enough, depite the unrealistic black and lime green coloring. Overall a nice transformer, should be good for the kids, but there's nothing special about it either.
