This is jean`s son.I got this from santa and with three transformers in one box!The robo mode is great because it has a sub-machine gun, very detailed and people say the cockpit can`t open but I waned to see his face on the outside so where the big cocpit is lid it up and taadd you have it. The vehicle is detailed but no guns. This toy made it the best christmas ever.

When I first saw Breakaway in the stores, before ROTF release, I decided I needed to get him. Even though I knew he wasn't in the movie, I collect TF planes and the fact that he had a F-35 JSF mode made me all the more eager to get my hands on him.

In plane mode, he is amazing! Good, accurate details... I can't ask for more in Deluxe class toy. Had this been a Voyager, you'd expect a firing projectile and stuff. But as a JSF model, this is classy and very realistic looking. The paint job/ camaflouge is ok too... can live with that.

Unfortunately, that's where the good stuff ends.

Had a little trouble tranforming to robot mode, but once I did.... I was massively disappointed at how small his head is. His face/head is pretty much a "pilot's helmet" inside the cockpit. While it looks normal in the pictures, in reality... the head is the same size as a Legends class toy!!! Add in the fact that his head is a same height as his shoulders (instead of above), giving him a hunched-back look. The latter I can live with too, but not the tiny face/head. Plus the cockpit glass keeps getting in the way, so from a distance, you can't really see his face.

The other complaint I have is that Hasbro didn't need to give him feet with four 'toes'. In robot mode, it looks funny. In jet mode, they look really weird when they're tucked away at the bottom of the fuselage. What was wrong with plain, rectangular feet?

All in all, I'm a bit disappointed. And the Mech-Alive feature isn't too great either! I'm just going to keep him in plane mode mostly.

That said, he is same size and looks great next to some of the other jets I have - Dreadwing (Mig-29), Starscream & Thundercracker (F-15s) & Sky Warp (SU-37).

cool, i ordered him with voyager Starscream, the size difference bugged me considering they were both planes, but hes only a deluxe figure, and hes definitely unique. i hesitated because he wasn't in the movie, and to be honest he looked cheaper than the other deluxe toys, but i read another review and i don't regret buying it. he has a fun and easy transformation, and various colors that strangely enough went together rather nicely, my only problem is his rear vertical wing kind of pops off from time to time, hes great and i recommend him.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Flying Autobot, July 1, 2009

Breakaway is a flying autobot toy. Despite the large head in alternate mode which equals a small head in robot mode this toy is pretty good looking.I think it supposed to be an F-35 lightning plane which is a most recent model of military jet. The transformation of this toy is simple yet there is alot of kibble overall I really like this it grows on you. Also Flying Autobots are rare.

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVE Breakaway!, July 16, 2009

I used to have a thing against buying movie figures that weren't IN the movie. Breakaway...broke me away from that way of thinking. Looking at this figure, he doesn't seem like much. I passed him up until watching a review online. This figure is one that you have to get in your hands and mess around with to see it shine. His jet mode looks very nice. Yes, he has kibble underneath, but to me, it's not that much of an eye sore, and looks like it could be a part of the aircraft. There is a varient of this figure with a dark paint scheme if you desire it, but it seems hard to find. The transformation is very sleak and streamlined. It all kind of goes in a forward direction. Alot of people complain about the fact that his head is stuck in the cockpit; I think it's a very cool and original design element. On that note, I never thought I would say this about a Transformer, but he's got a cute little Ewok looking head. The rest of his design in robot mode is very cool. I personally like to give him the "chicken leg" look, but that's just me. His hands only move up and down like ROTF Starscream, sadly. Great articulation and posability. Very durable, very cool figure. I hope he makes it to TF3.

It's always nice to see the Autobots take to the skies every once in awhile, and Breakaway does it in style. Loosely modeled on the Lockheed Martin F-35 fighter jet, Breakaway has a modern desert camo paint job with silvery blue accents. Interestingly for a deluxe he has working landing gear wheels and doesn't suffer too badly from robot junk poking out from under the jet form like many other aerial bots.

The transformation is clever but a bit tricky when it comes to flipping the wings and nose cone so smaller children might have to be supervised through a few practice runs before the get it down. Also the cock pit over his head and the hook that clips in the tail/wings to his back can sometimes be a bit finicky. He doesn't change scale all that much, no sliding/extending/unfolding limbs so he seems a bit on the small side next to other deluxes (not to mention his jet mode next to the car robots).

The robot form is aces. Breakaway's got a lot of character for a smaller sized aerial bot. Highly posable and stands up sturdy, although his mech alive gimmicks of the rotating gun and camshafts in his upper arms are a bit underwhelming. And toes! The dude's got toes. Only 8 of 'em but still, TOES! His face has this almost sad expression that reminds me of Johnny # 5. The eyes are light piped in a rich blue but it doesn't seem to show any glow.

Breakaway is a great little figure. Totally worth the 10-15 he seems to go for. If you're lookin' for an Autobot jet he's one of the better ones out there, but his mold was also used to make Decepticon Thrust. So I'd compare the two before you buy. TOES!

And remember parents: If you don't like challenging your children, BUY AGE APPROPRIATE.

My grandchildren love to play with transformers. In some points they are challenging, forcing kids to use their brains.
I enjoy playing with transformers too.

This is Jean's son again. Just saying that the tf's in one box is saying that I got the taner one with Longarm, Sideways, and Rampage and you can see my short, but detailed reveiw. Thank you for your time. I love this one! Pick up the pack or him-self.
