5.0 out of 5 stars A great option for a cheaper version.
When I saw the pics of this toy online I really liked how the truck looked but was unsure about the robot. When I bought it today I must say the robot looks much better in person. I have seen the 44 dollar toy and it does look great, but with that said this cheaper toy really does hold up well in comparison. If I had one small gripe it's that Prime's chest is not the...

2.0 out of 5 stars Not as durable as the other figures
This is the last of several Transformers that my son has received for his birthday this year and by far my least favorite. After helping him with Starscream, Sidewinder, Demolisher, and Bumblebee I expected the same quality and engineering that was put into the other models. This is not the case with this model of Optimus Prime. I am disappointed with the cheapness of...

When I saw the pics of this toy online I really liked how the truck looked but was unsure about the robot. When I bought it today I must say the robot looks much better in person. I have seen the 44 dollar toy and it does look great, but with that said this cheaper toy really does hold up well in comparison. If I had one small gripe it's that Prime's chest is not the front of the truck like old versions of the toy and instead a fake chest is used. This is minor and really is made up for more than well enough.
All in all if you want a really good permanent Prime this is a great addition and well worth the price. It also was just hard enough to transform without being over the top hard like some of the other toys that have come out in this line. Bumblebee comes to mind.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Optimus, July 6, 2009
= Durability:3.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Transformers Voyager Optimus Prime (Toy)
I recently picked up this Transformer and aside from a few quibbles, I have been very impressed.

It has been a while since I actually bought a Transformer for myself, but recently I have been getting back into it. I had heard from a friend recently that the newer Transformers had a suprising amount of detail in the transformations. Add a resurgent fascination with Star Wars and I decided to pick up a couple of the Star Wars Crossover series. It has only progressed from there so with a recent birthday I decided to pick up this model.

First the good. The transformation of the toy simply wowed me. No more simple "unfold leg and twist". (Yes, the legs still "just unfold" but the details in that is what sells it). The panels that pop out and mechanically fold back under are just not there in the older toys. And considering this model is only rated at a 3 out 4 difficulty, I can only imagine what a 4 out of 4 would be like to transform.

Additionally, the detailing on the truck is excellent. From the "faceless driver" that flips out of sight when the door is opened to the spring loaded panels on the cab that pop into place as the legs extend, to the forearm protectors that slide into place, there were just so many details on this toy that impressed me.

Finally, the eyes in the head and the lights on the truck are clear blue plastic so that if you face Optimus towards you with a light behind it (like a window) they light up. Very cool.

The downsides. Some parts of the model I would guess wouldn't be that durable. Parts such as the rear fenders fold up but seem precarious and vulnerable to rough play. I imagine an older kid would have no problem with this but a toddler or someone on the edge of the rated age range might inadvertently break them off. Also, the nose of the truck just sort of folds up into a ungainly backpack in robot mode. It would have been nice if a little more thought went into this aspect of the model.

All said though, this is one of the coolest tranformers I have had the pleasure to transform in a long time and will only fuel my addiction for more to come

Highly recommended. Enjoy.

Last point, this toy seems almost identical to the one issued for the first Transformers movie with a simple paint change. Since I do not own that toy as well, I cannot speak to any change made among the various issuances, though I believe it is Hasbro's policy to reissue the same toy over and over again in various packaging.

5.0 out of 5 stars Optimus Prime!, June 29, 2009

This is one version, of two, of The Fallen in toy form (the other form being approximately a 4 inch tall figure), and this figure is really neat! The Voyager series is quite possibly the best version of the Transformer figures we get with this particular movie. The figures run at about $23 depending on where you buy them.

I also bought The Fallen and Megatron figures of the Voyager editions and, this also goes with The Fallen, the figures all feel cheap. The plastic is extremely lightweight and it's tough to keep the figures from staying in their vehicle modes (Optimus) without the aid of a rubber band. As much as I love these figures I will say right now that the Transformers toys from the 80s were of better quality than these. These feel like toddler toys that will break apart at any second when you handle them.

The detail on this version of Optimus Prime is the best you're going to get outside of spending $45 for the electronic version. Granted, some detail in some areas is a bit shabby but it's the best thing without breaking your wallet. I really like the detail Hasbro paid to the face of Prime as it definitely looks like the exact same face Prime was given in the film!

The figure transforms in a decent manner but you'll want to keep the directions that come with it as you'll never be able to fully remember how to transform the figure if you aren't using it after a while.

Overall, the figure is exceptional and highly recommended for any collector or fan of the Transformers toys! The appendages look great as well as the paint job!

This is the last of several Transformers that my son has received for his birthday this year and by far my least favorite. After helping him with Starscream, Sidewinder, Demolisher, and Bumblebee I expected the same quality and engineering that was put into the other models. This is not the case with this model of Optimus Prime. I am disappointed with the cheapness of the plastic, the tolerance of the assembly, and the general letdown of getting a cheap toy when I expected a bit more. The other models feel sturdy in your hand and have a heavier gauge of plastic and also have more connection points that hold the models together once transformed. This model does have some cool features but overall is just not as good as the others. I would recommend the more expensive model for the older kids as it can handle more abuse and the gravity assist line for the younger kids as they transforms by themselves.

I bought this for my five year old son. I was concerned that it was too complicated and too fragile but he had his little heart set on getting Optimus Prime and the only other model costs twice as much. Well both concerns turned out unfounded. After a little bit of initial help, Jack was soon converting it from robot to truck and back without any help - it really wasn't that complicated but kudos on the overall sophistication of the toy for the price. In terms of durability, well parts do tend to fall off - particularly the smoke stacks, the feet and these red flaps on the arms. But fortunately they snap right back on and seem none the worse. It seems that the toy was designed to give on pre set snap joints rather than breaking - kudos again for the design folks. I don't want to overstate the quality - I am sure it will break in time, almost all toys do, but it survived the first week with a whole lot of play and my son is very happy spending a lot of time with opimus prime.

Optimus Prime is back better than ever! The detail on this Optimus in robot or truck mode is excellent overall with some added cybertron tattoos and an autobot symbol added on to the paint job while still having the sweet flame design. This figure is a very good movie representation with very solid durability overall for either mode.Optimus has smokestacks that convert to cannons in robot mode or can be harnessed just behind his shoulders for use later. Both cannons come with double firing missiles to give it the realism effect. The poseability of Optimus is outstanding with Optimus able to assume many poses for displaying or to act out whatever battle scenes come to mind. The smokestacks can pop of during transformation, but can easily be reattached with ease as some pieces are made purposely to be able to pop back into place. After all if Optimus is to use them as weapons they would have to be able to do that so to me that is not a big deal. The transformation is advanced meaning if you have plenty of experience with transformers there is challenging difficulty. If you are a parent buying for a child of 5-6 or younger you will have to probably help some in the process.Honestly if you take some time to practice with it and have some patience most ages should be able to get the hang of it.I do own the first movie voyager Optimus and this version is just as good with solid durability, poseability, and detail all around. The trickiest parts in the transformation are the folding of the legs to form the back of the truck while the front part ends up being on the back of Optimus. There is a sliding and folding motion for this part which as long as you don't use to much pressure you will be fine.Bottom Line Optimus Prime ROTF Voyager is a well-made,high quality,10 out of 10 figure all transformer fans should enjoy.I highiy recommend Optimus Prime to all transformer fans and collectors alike.Transformers Rule!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice Prime, June 3, 2010

This review is from: Transformers Voyager Optimus Prime (Toy)
$20 for this transformer isn't bad, and Optimus Prime really delivers. This particular toy is great for a first transformer because the transformation is fairly easy.(Even though the directions can be confusing at times.) Even though the robot mode isn't movie completely accurate, it still looks awesome. My friends (even the older ones) thought this was a cool transformer too. The durability is only 4 stars because his arm guards fell off a few times. No problem though; they snap back on. Prime's smoke stacks convert to twin blasters that shoot plastic missiles. Robot mode is pretty cool. As with most transformers, his eyes glow when a light source is behind them. Truck mode is great. At first I didn't think he rolled well because his arms tended to drag, but if you fold his arms properly under the truck, he rolls smoothly. I like this toy alot. It makes a great gift too. One complaint: after owning Prime for a while, the driver's side door will not close. (It used to snap shut.) No biggy. He's still a great transformer.
