It's Optimus Prime...,
By
This review is from: Transformers Alternators Dodge Ram SRT10 Optimus Prime (Toy)
This is Optimus Prime, but definitely not one of the best Optimus Prime's you could go out and buy right now.
Lets start of by saying that in truck mode this toy looks very convincing. It is very detailed and there is little to give away the fact that this toy transforms into a robot. It has a lot of little detailing, like a realistic interior and fold down truck gate and opening hood that make it an interesting toy from the start. Now the transformation for this toy it where things start to get bad. I will start out by saying that I collect transformers, and I must have at least 100 toys ranging from Generation 1 up until the recent Cybertron toy line. I have the MP-01 "Anniversary Optimus Prime" which often gets put in the Alternators line, which is where this Dodge Ram Optimus Prime is from. Now the first thing that struck me when transforming this toy into a robot is that the directions weren't as clear as they should be. I mean, half the time I don't even look at the directions, but some of the joint configurations, especially for the arms are very confusing as to whey they were done the way they were. Several parts, like the car doors, pulled off when I was transforming this toy, and although they snap right back on it was a little shocking to have a part come off so early into a transformation (or 2 minutes after you get this toy out of the box). After struggling with the transformation, I eventually got it into Robot mode, and when looking at this toy in Robot Mode, it doesn't look anything like Prime, except for the head. The robot mode is bulky and ill-proportioned at best. You have to tuck the spoiler of the truck into the back of the legs, which will force the tailgate down giving his feet a "heel" to help keep him upright (something they don't tell you in the instruction, btw). If you do not do this the toy will lean backwards. They legs are not very poseable at all, at least, not in any way that will allow you to pose them and have the toy stand up without falling over. The same goes with the arms. There is so much junk around the arms (junk like car doors, car seats, front bumper sections that come off way to easily, the hood/chest of the car, etc) that make posing his arms interestingly a real challenge too. The Robots fingers are articulated, which is nice and something they did in the Anniversary Prime, and the face sculpt is one of the better optimus prime heads I have seen recently, but the lack of poseability coupled with the fragility of this toy make it hard to recommend. This toy is not for children, no matter what the box says. Parts come off of it way too easily, to either be swallowed or lost, to make it a viable toy for kids. It seems that a lot of playability was sacrificed for looks, and in truck mode this works fine. However the Robot mode, which is what transformers is all about, is just horrible. It doesn't look good, it cannot be posed good, and if you really wanted a more "realistic" Optimus Prime you could go for the 20th anniversary edition, or even the THS-02 "hybrid style" Prime, both of which have tons of articulation, a lot of realistic detailing and have the benefit of actually looking like Optimus Prime in more than just the face and colors.

Do NOT and I mean DO NOT, pay the high markup price from the sellers on Amazon. I bought this toy at my local Walmart for $20 and it isn't even worth that much let along, $70+. I'll give it some credit, it looks pretty good in robot mode and he is pretty posable, but it's when or if you can get back into truck mode, I don't know maybe I got a defective one, but when you have to transform him into truck mode, it's like pulling teeth. I simply could not get his hood and the second half of his body to line up correctly, leading me to throw it against the wall. I'm normally very patient with my transformers but this one just blew my mind. What really gets me is how simple his transformation really is, but yet I couldn't get mine to work. So do yourself a favor and seek out a different version of the Autobot leader!

Optimus Prime -- Downsized,

This review is from: Transformers Alternators Dodge Ram SRT10 Optimus Prime (Toy)
On the whole I was impressed with this Alternators version of Optimus Prime. The Dodge Ram is a very appropriate choice to represent this classic character, the transformation is interesting, and the robot mode is cleanly designed and articulated and evokes many elements of the original Optimus Prime, especially in the very nice face sculpt. The transformation is also nicely engineered to maintain a similar height to the other figures in the line in robot mode despite the larger vehicle mode, making them look nice together on the shelf.
Still, several of the features that make the Alternators line interesting are rather slipshod on this figure. The hood opens only by taking the grille with it, the engine compartment is not at all convincing, the steering gimmick functions almost not at all, etc. Additionally, the vehicle mode feels less than sturdy in some places, and the robot mode looks somewhat unfinished because of the halves of the front bumper hanging over the shoulders; some pieces feel rather fragile, like the clear plastic armatures that move the bumper halves into place. The joints in the shoulders are engineered somewhat weirdly and can be difficult to control. In all, the figure is well worth the price point and a good display piece in both modes, despite some minor flaws. It's somewhat less suited for play and younger buyers.

I bought this Transformers Optimus Prime Alternator because I'm obsessed with Optimus Prime and wanted another for my collection. Upon opening the package, the figure tumbled out, smacked the ground and both legs popped right off. Just like that, within 2 seconds of opening it was broken. Super glue and patience yielded a fixed figure that I could display with the rest of my collection, but playing with the toy is out of the question.
Other parts of the toy are equally fragile and I had to take care not to break the thing while transforming it and posing it for my shelf. In the hands of a kid, this toy would be broken into a dozen pieces in a heartbeat. Cliff notes: if you're a careful collector of Transformers toys, I can recommend this toy to you. But if you're buying it for your kids, look elsewhere for a more durable, less sharp toy.

I really liked this Transformer. At times I forget how to transform it without the instructions though. The plastic doesn't seem very durable and may break if handled by kids.
I typically get the imports but I just had to have Optimus Prime.

This is one of the best recent renditions of Prime yet. Very stunning as a Dodge Ram SRT 10. Great posing and easy transformations. The red color is great!!!

looks great and transforms into a large robot,

I am collector myself of the Alternator series. The design is very realistic and the transformations a bit trickier than the other transformers toys. That is how I like them though. The truck looks great and transforms into a large robot.

The parts are easy to fall off, and they do not fit that well. The hood always pops up in truck mode. It is a design issue. It is quite hard to transform. Not good for kids under 13 because it is just too hard to play with

This is a piece of junk, way overpriced and I was shocked how each part falls off, it doesn't stay together, very aggravating for an adult never mind a child. The pieces end up everywhere........very disappointing.........
