5.0 out of 5 stars Challenging but Rewarding
Wheeljack is by FAR the most difficult of all Transformers I've ever tried. He is the only one besides RiD Ultra Magnus I've had to use the instructions for, but they are pitifully inadequate. His legs aren't too bad, but his upper body, holy cow! Take my advice and remove the doors (they come off and go back on extremely easily). Even then it's tough, and getting him...

3.0 out of 5 stars Hasbro, decided to be cheap.
Yes, its very hard to transform blah blah blah, that's not what pissed me off about this product. This transformer's paint is not durable at all, this can become a problem while transforming it. The parts dont stay together very well at all, the plastic is flimsy. If you want to buy an alternator, I wouldn't recommend them, I would only recommend Bintaltech transformers...

Even then it's tough, and getting him back is even worse! I relished in the challenge, though, and have managed to become astute at getting him from one mode to the other. It feels strange to take pride in such an accomplishment, but I can't help it.

His Mustang mode looks great though it can be tough to get everything lined up exactly right, and his robot mode is nothing less than impressive! His sword seems kind of stubby, though it actually looks like a sword which is not always the case with American Transformers. His white and blue paint job looks nice, and his head looks like the classic Wheeljack head. His legs look like they ought to be stiff and cumbersome, but they are actually very easy to pose.

The doors can be annoying until you learn how to transform him properly (which is why I say take them off for now), and I had trouble with the piece that connects them to the shoulder. The screw kept falling out of mine (I super glued it finally) which can add to your pains although hopefully that's not common.

Someone asked me once if these were still as fun as they used to be. With Wheeljack's level of difficulty I wouldn't call him "fun," but as a display piece he is virtually unrivaled! Definitely don't buy him for a child's toy.

Availability sucks. I watched for a couple of weeks before I was able to place an order. Coming back to write this review I see that he's already unavailable again. Good look. If you need instructions on his transformation check out www.csspace.com/transformers

If you think it's hard to transform him into a robot..... just wait till you try to transform him back into a car. For some reason its just so hard to figure out exactly how to get the arms right. This is NOT a toy for your kids. This is for adult collectors who want model Transformers that don't look like toys.

All the Alternators in vehicle mode are perfect replicas of their real world counterparts. So even if you are just a model car collector you can add these babies into your 24:1 collection.

Pesonally I think the Mustang and Rx-8 molds are the best of the line. They are the nicest looking in robot mode and have the most poseability. I'm 30 years old and haven't bought a Transformer in 15 years but I have almost every one in this line. They are truly engineering masterpieces and anyone who sees them in person will be utterly amazed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beast A;ternators You Can Buy., January 9, 2010

Wheeljack is a very very fun toy.
PROS:
Looks great in car mode and robot mode
Great articulation
Head sculpt looks exactly like the old, 1980's Wheeljack
Color scheme looks nice
Sword and gun fit in hiss hands better than, say, Prowl's
Awesome detailed interior, like all Alternators/Binatechs
CONS:
Difficult transformation
Colour scheme is not anything like G1
Sculpt looks more like Prowl, Bluestreak, or Smokescreen

Many people complain about his difficult transformation, and really, the only difficult thing about it are the arms. The only parts that fall off are the doors, which pose no problem if when you pop them off the first time you just re-attach them when you're done transforming him. All in all, this is a toy that deserves much more praise than it's normally given, and is easily the best Alternator figure.

This is a pretty cool toy, not something for kids, obviously. The only thing about this one is that it is hard to transform without removing the doors. I happen to like a good challenge however, so it has been fun messing around with it.

I missed the Alternator train when they first came out some years ago. I got back into collecting when the first Transformers live-action movie came out. While checking out Transformer review sites I stumbled upon the Alternators. "Wow! These are awesome!" I thought. Last year I started adding Alternators to my Amazon wish list but couldn't pull the trigger on buying one because of the price. Well, last month I finally took the leap and purchased my first Alternator. I don't think I could have made a better choice. Wheeljack is awesome! All of the Alternators are a 1:24 scale of the real vehicle. He's made of plastic (Binaltech, the Japanese equivalent are made of die-cast metal) so he's doesn't have that much heft. He's a pretty detailed 2005 Ford Mustang GT. His doors, hood, and trunk open up to reveal different levels of detailing from an engine that turns into a gun, to a pretty fleshed out interior. The robot mode is just as awesome. Transforming him from car to robot and vice versa is more complicated than other Transformer lines and can be a little tricky in the arms department. I don't think this is a toy for the kids. It took me a few minutes to figure out how to get the arms back into vehicle mode, and the manual is not very helpful. He has great poseability and looks great on display. He's given some G1 nods in his head mold and doors posing as wings. Again, an awesome Transformer. If you see him, buy him. You won't be sorry. Now, which Alternator is next on my wishlist?

5.0 out of 5 stars ASTONISHING TRANSFORMATION!, September 25, 2009

WHAT A TRANSFORMER!!!!! Let me just say that Wheeljack is my favorite from the alternator line and he takes transformation engineering to the next level! Like his counterpart, Grimlock, he is a Ford Mustang GT but he has a different paint job and a retooled head mold to fit his Generation one persona.

The car mode is amazing. It features a superb white and blue striped paint job, fantastic accuracy in 1:24 scale with a real car of this model and an exquisitely detailed interior that has a life-like feel that you just have to observe in person!

The transformation is ,of coarse, exceedingly difficult but I would not have it any other way. The challenge in his conversion makes Wheeljack a masterpiece of unique and sophisticated engineering that I have come to respect and endlessly enjoy in the alternator line. Though parts do fall off of him, they all reattach so I call him fairly durable since permanent damage is easily avoidable.

Now for the robot mode. Just poetically brilliant!!! He has bulky parts like a G1 transformer but the articulation of an Olympic gymnast! Such form and function has me quite nearly at a loss for words. It is this figure that shows just how far transformers and the science of engineering itself has come since 1984 when positionable arms were considered high end technology!

Okay.....one of the reviewers here mentioned that you need an engineering degree to transform this guy. And that may very well be right. But for everyone to get riled up and fit to be tied because their kids can't transform this thing is just plain dumb. Anyone who looks at the alt mode can see it involves a complicated transformation. And yes its Hasbro's fault for labeling these things ages 6+.
Now for some comments on the toy itself. This is a great version of Wheeljack, the Ford Mustang GT modeling fits him very well as it seems we don't get a lot of G1 looking Transformers these days. As with most Alternators and Binaltechs, the head is very reminiscent of the original Wheeljack. I also really like his sword, its like he's holding a lightsaber or something.
Final Conclusion: Its certainly worth it, though if the Binaltech version can be found that would be a better way to go. But I highly recommend this guy.

Impossible to transform, the instructions are terrible & as said in another review u would need a degree in engineering to transform this

Also the parts just fall off, nothing stays on whilst u attempt to transform it, stay clear of this toy in my opinion

This is a great buy for those folks that grew up with the Transformers, but this is a terrable buy for parents looking for a toy for thier children.

This character looks great in either vehicle or robot mode, the problem is getting it there. Its very difficult to "transform" Wheeljack into his robot mode, and changing him back into a car is a huge pain in the but. Expect the doors to detatch as you transform him. If you expect to be playing with this toy for some time, think about getting the metal Japanese version.

As a display piece, he stands well, and his limbs articulate well for posing. The sword that comes with him seems out of place. If someone out there is feeling industrious, you may entertain the idea of creating a weapon for Wheeljack that fits his personality and role more appropriately. Maybe a large combination wrench that he can hold and attaches to him in vehicle mode the same way the sword does.
