I wanted to write this review to drive down the star rating so that no other parent had to suffer with this toy. I am 36 with an advanced degree, have built my own computers, and I had a hard time transforming this toy. Worse, even the mildest amount of torque or inadvertent force will have pieces popping off left and right. Even if my son had a PhD in engineering from MIT, I can't see how he could've played with this. Ugh.
I will say that Hasbro's return policy is pretty nice.

Animated Bumblebee is a great transformer!Bumblebee comes in his classic colors in a futuristic sports car mode.Bumblebee is one of the best transformers in the animated line.I have transformed Bee back&forth a million times, had my cats knock him off the t.v. to the floor, and fall down the steps.I have had none of the problems stated in these other reviews.Bumblebee comes with good detail in robot or sports car mode to where he is exactly like he is seen on the show. This autobot hero comes with some sweet features as well like snap on rocket boosters and flip out stingers. The poseability is outstanding with great stability for creating battle scenes or unique display poses. The durability is excellent as well with secure joints and a secure build in either robot or sports car mode. The transformation level is advanced meaning if you have plenty of experience with transformers there is mid-level difficulty. If you are a parent buying for a child of 5-6 or younger you might have to assist them some in the process.Bumblebee actually has a very versatile transformation for most ages with practice.Bottom line Bumblebee is a well-made,high quality,10 out of 10 transformer all fans will enjoy.I highly recommend Bumblebee to all fans and collectors out there.Bumblebee Rocks and Transformers Rule!!!

Do not waste your money buying this. I got this in the bargain bin at K-Mart for something like $6 and after transforming it into Bumblebee, I then found that there were no instructions for turning him back into a car. It took me like two hours over two frustrating days to finally figure out that a piece was simply stuck, which was preventing me from completing the transformation. Parts fly off constantly and are difficult to snap back into place.
The box says 5+ but there's no way a 5 year-old is going to be able to keep all the pieces (body, head, two missiles, and two roof plates) together for longer than a few hours. My advice, (if you insist on getting it) keep this thing a car and tell your kid to play with it like that. As Bumblebee, he'll have everything falling off and then the toy can never be a car again. I ended up breaking ours in order to get it back into a car and I will be super gluing it so that it can't turn back into a robot again. If I had to transform this again I'd have an anxiety attack.

My son got this as a gift for his birthday and I hate it. It is impossible to get folded back to a car and pieces fall off constantly. I think I'm going to have to hide it from him so he will forget about it, and from myself so I don't smash it into million pieces.

I can very much understand why those with children would have complaints about such a toy, on account that it is tricky to transform. That, and it is a bit sensitive if you aren't cautious with it--various parts will pop off, I mean, like an arm or a leg (although I've never had trouble with reattaching said parts on mine). I think the main problem comes with the ball-and-socket joint, which leads to excellent mobility--but also the potential to disconnect.
At any rate, I didn't purchase mine to play with, and so I'm perfectly content with such a figure as-is. That said, Bumblebee very much looks like the character--both in robot and vehicle mode. And, he comes with a lot of the same features as the cartoon: You can attach his boosters, no problem. His eyes, stingers, and boosters "glow" when you stand him in front of a light. He has a small compartment tunk space in vehicle mode that you could probably fit 2-3 nickels in. In robot mode, you can bring his stingers together and lock them for his stinger attack. And, you can interchange his hands and stingers, simply by flipping one or the other out. (Note: the stingers don't fully retreat within the confines of his arms.) His arms and legs are fully moveable, and he's very easily free-standing. His head can tilt and twist in just about any direction--although mine does have a penchant to occasionally twist right off. And so I'd say he's probably more of a figure for a collector, and not-so-much a to-be-played-with toy--just because he can be a bit delicate. But if you like Transformers Animated, and get a kick out of the character, I'd say it's most certainly worth it.

We have a couple of transformers now with my sons 5 and 3yrs old. All I can say is thank god I also got the TRANSFORMERS ANIMATED Deluxe Class: AUTOBOT RATCHET
[...] on my 5 year old's b-day or it would have been a huge bummer. This thing is hardly workable with an adult. It hasn't turned me off the transformers toys because I now know that some are good and some stink. This one stinks. It falls apart before you can put it together, it is really, really hard, believe me. Incidentally, the Ratchet is great, it works great, stays together, makes sense, but is not too easy. My sons spent hours and hours and hours working with it.

I have to say, I'm an original transformer fan of the 80's. This new line, while staying true to the actual cartoon counterparts both in vehicle and robot mode look great, prepare to be "transforming' these for about 30 minutes.
I have found them to be a bewilderment when trying to transform them from robot/vehicle mode, and back again. My 7 and 6 year old, who usually can figure these things out with little guidance, have found these new line of characters to be difficult, stubborn in some areas, and have arms/legs/heads popping off left and right. There is this whole new design philosophy with these toys, I guess I'll call it "built to break". In other words, joints are just simple plastic with a ball end, destined to pop out at any given time (especially when transforming) and make playing with them like playing with expensive china. Not too rough, and delicate touches only. Its a shame. They look dead on great in their robot modes, and somewhat authentic in their vehicle modes, but have in general been a frustrating toy to play with. Most reviews will be from collectors I'm sure, not from actual kids playing with them, so be careful what reviews your actually reading. Many toys now-a-days are more for collector status, then their play value, and these are a bizzare middle ground type toy. SO, beware, they easily come apart, somewhat frustrating to transform, and will leave you and your kids scratching your heads at just "how" to get an arm to fit right. Oh well.

I loved transformers as a kid and this was for my son. First this is difficult to transform which is okay, but the thing falls apart at every turn and not just when my son was doing it but when I was carefully following the directions and working on it for 1/2 hour. By the end of the week it was broken into pieces. It wasn't built to last.

I bought this toy for my four year old and consider it a waste of money. Once I transformed it into robot mode I was unable to get it back into car mode. It locks up at one of the steps listed in the instructions. Add to that the many pieces that constantly fall off you have one big headache. My son has many other transformers that are hard to transform but this locked up one is the worst. I do not recommend this toy.
