4.0 out of 5 stars Boys, boys, boys!
If you have sons you will really appreciate the 1/2 hour of peace and quiet this game provides...Boys aged 7-14 will appreciate the graphics and all the action. Parents will enjoy the (largely) non-violent games and how engaged children are in the stories the game creates. Set a time limit on game playing and let the kids enjoy this one!

Unlike the console versions of mega budget feature film video game tie-in, Transformers for the DS has been split into two different games that reflect the warring robot sides. The Decepticon version of Transformers for the DS allows you to play as the evil Megatron and his team of Decepticons as they battle the heroic Autobots on Earth. The best thing about Transformers: Autobots and Decepticons respectively is that you will get a different gaming experience out of both versions, even though there are plenty of mirrored core mechanics to be found as well. First off, you'll notice that the robots themselves look great and are nicely rendered as well. Not to mention that scanning other vehicles is a nice touch, and the open world environments (while limited) are nicely done as well. The overall presentation of Transformers: Decepticons is great, but what really hurts the game is the assortment of bugs and glitches (particularly here with the Decepticons version when playing as one of the fliers) that you'll come across when playing. The game's camera can also be unforgiving, and the environments are lacking in overall detail. Despite all that though, Transformers: Decepticons manages to succeed in the departments it could have easily failed in like so many licensed, movie tie-in video games often do. In that respect alone, Transformers: Decepticons, as well as the Autobots version, are worth checking out for Transformers fans and DS owners alike.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Very Impressive Game, December 3, 2007
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Transformers - Decepticons (Video Game)
I Purchased this game because of the high ratings and the supposed "Challenge". I underestimated this game. The Graphics are amazing. The game is pretty challenging. One of my favorite touches is that you can have your own character. I made my Decepticon a Brown and Green attack helicopter and it is totally ausome. The only downside of this game is the camera, it can be extremely unmerciful. This is a highly reccomended game. I don't know where everybody else is getting these glitches, I have played this for 5 hours straight and not 1 glitch. The Decepticon edition has exclusive desert levels which I think are ausome. This is a must buy game for anyone and everyone!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good, September 24, 2008

I recently bought this game Transformers Decepticons for DS
I didn't know much about it and i thought it would be a game like Spiderman 2 for DS, luckily, i was wrong.
It seemed more like The Incredible Hulk Ultimate Destruction, except you can not destroy buildings and it has DS graphics, of course.
The good things i found in this game are the ability to scan and become pretty much every vehicle in the game, you could grab almost anything and use it as a weapon. And you get guns. A lot of guns. Well more like rockets.
I also liked becoming a jet or helicopter, and flying around town, hunting every autobot down.
Overall this a great kids game, and can provide hours of fun. I'd give it 3 out of 5 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great game, May 7, 2008

I have not had this much fun with a Nintendo DS game since I got Transformers: Autobots Ds game! HAHA! Anyway, this is a very good game. To start with, the graphics are amazing (for a DS game) there are huge enviremonts to roam freely in between missions. Envirements include a monstrous city, Hoover Dam, another small town, and the Desert in Quatar, which is unique to the Decepticons version( in the autobots game, instead of Quatar you get to go to the arctic). The game has a little over 20 missions, less than the autobots version, but a lot harder. This game has some very hard and irritating levels, but the game is still a blast. at the beginning of the game, you create your own character. Whenever you are in freeplay, you play as your character. Freeplay consists of do what ever you want time. Best described as a E 10+ version of Grand Theft Auto. You can scan dozens of vehicle forms to change into at any time. Though you play your character for a portion of missions, you also get to play movie characters including: Barricade, Blackout, Brawl, Starscream, and, of course, Megatron. When you beat the game however, you can play any character in freeplay. The Multiplayer, which consists of a kill-each-other type thing, is fun but the envirements are not big enough. You can play any character that you have already beaten a mission with. You can also hook up on line to play Allspark wars with other people using a Wi-Fi connection. I have not tried it yet. The story is about the same as the movie until the end. The entire end is about how Starscream betrays you and runs with the allspark. So the final boss battle is not against Prime (you fight and kill Prime earlier) but against Starscream. What ends up happening is rather shocking. Overall I recommend getting both the Decepticons version and the autobot version. If you plan on only getting one, get the Decepticons version. Be aware that you need two games to play multiplayer. Oh, and another thing, this story completely leaves out any human characters, including Sam Whitwicky. 5/5

Bought this for my two boys and they just can't put it down. Looks like I may purchase another one so they can each have one to play.

this is a really well thought out game. it does get very frustrating, which is why it didn't get a 5-star rating. but overall, it is NOT a waste of money.

Wow! This is a ds game? Well, first of all, this is amazing! I have to say, this is one of the best games ever made for a ds! You really need to get this game. You can find a car to scan that is super fast, then, fly around and crash into cars! Then, if you like to cause trouble, transform and blow stuff up! Now just wait for the cops to show up to attempt to blow you off the planet! Well, I am just saying that this game is AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Worth the while..., July 25, 2010
A Kid's Review
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Transformers - Decepticons (Video Game)
Transformers: Decepticons is a neat game, if difficult.

Story:
A variation on the movie, the story of Transformers: Decepticons is pretty neat. Various plot elements (e.g. Barricade chasing Bumblebee) are in the movie as well as the game, while others (e.g. Megatron's weapons chip being stolen) are not in the movie, but are in the game. Though the plot bounces around a bit, it's still pretty neat. My rating- ****

Gameplay:
The difficulty level is a bit high; kids under 10 might be frustrated. The difficulty level is also somewhat sporadic, as one of the middle levels is unbelievably easy. On the plus side, the ability to scan different vehicle forms is pretty neat. My rating- ***^ (three and a half stars)

Graphics and Sound:
The graphics are pretty good, especially the Transformers. The various environments are also a plus. The music is nothing special, but nothing annoying either. The sound effects and voice acting are also pretty good. My rating- ****

Pros:
*Good graphics and environments
*Nice voice acting
*Neat alternate story

Cons:
*Sporadic difficulty level
*A little bit too hard

Note:
Near the beginning of the game, you kill the protagonist of Transformers - Autobots.

Overall:
In summary, this game is a nifty play, especially if you like Transformers and enjoyed the movie. It's slightly better than Transformers: Autobots because you can attack the humans, but that's just me. My rating- ***^
