When I first got this toy, he looked kinda bland. But when I took it out of the package, I fell in love. I now play with it every day.In bird mode the wings and feet are very poseable, making it able to fly, swoop, and stand. Robot mode is also rather poseable. It's energon weapons (two sword-club thingies) combine to form a giant ninja-star (I don't know if I've ever seen a real ninja-star, so I don't know how realistic it is). This guy might not seem so great in the store, but you might be surprised if you buy it.

I just bought this toy and it's great, but in its eagle form, the wings fell off pretty easy. If you ignore that, it is EXCELLENT!

I was more than amazed to see that a toy this small could be that great. When I first saw pictures of Divebomb, I thought that the robot mode looked superb, but I wasn't so sure about the bird. It looked fine on pictures, but no more. That was my opinion until I got it. Upon opening the box, my opinion has changed for the better - instantly! The bird mode is much more than fine: it's awesome. The detailing is surprising for the toy's size - to the point that it beats a bunch of deluxe-sized ones. Many etched/painted details enhance the appearance and make it look wild yet robotic, which you would expect from a Terrorcon. Oh yeah, as often is the case on the Energon line, the head is *hrm* not quite hidden. Look underside and say hello to the small ninja-face greeting you! Only praises to say about posability in bird mode (or robot mode, for that matter; see next paragraph). The wings, being on ball joints, can move in many ways, and you can fold them around the fans at the middle to show/hide the green flames/feathers. The legs' mobility is pretty good too, the nicest touch being the movable heel. You can easily set Divebomb in a dive attack position, true to birds of prey! All in all, the bird mode has very good posability and outstanding looks. Truly nice. Then, the robot mode. It does not disappoint at all. In fact, it more than matched my expectations! The transformation scheme is very original and quite easy to carry out. The figure's detailing is every bit as good as the bird's one, and the face sculpt is simply stunning. Again, posability is surprising for the toy's size, having ball joints at the hips and at the forearms. Add a rotating head to that, plus shoulders that have two articulation points and knees that can bend. The result : many action poses possible, combined with killer looks! As for the weapons, I prefer leaving the bird as is and storing the Energon blades because they are a bit too big, but many people like it anyway. In robot mode, the Energon "ultimate weapon" looks silly, like on most Omnicons/Terrorcons, because of its size. However, having the blades as individual swords gives the toy a striking, mean and beautiful look. They are *just* the right size to fit the small robot, and they look like scimitars. This suits the ninja-themed presentation. I would think the toy to be durable, having a sturdy and simple construction and being molded in what seems to be quality plastic. I put the educationnal factor at 5 stars to give Divebomb a 5 stars overall. I don't think educationnal value is truly what is at stakes here. Whereas, say, Lego's would score a broad 5 on educationnal value, in my opinion, Transformers would score 3.5. But,Transformers are Transformers and this particular one deserves its shiny golden 5 stars for that type of action figure. To conclude :

This guy is probably the best cheap transformer out there. His arms and legs are possible and his weapon is great. Transforming may be a little tricky, but once you get the hang of it, it's easy. He reminds me of the Cheetor from Beast Wars in which the beast's head is the robot's arms (which is cool). Overall, I HIGHLY reccomend this toy to anyone.

This was the second energon toy I bought. I bought it because I felt like I should have an energon decepticon to battle my signal flare toy. This toy is actually pretty good though. None of his parts fell off but his weapon wears down over time if you constantly take apart his energon weapon. His weapon fits in much bigger figures hands like megatron, mega-octane, etc. The terrorcons and omnicons are good toys to start out with and look good in any collection. The only thing I disliked was how he doesn't have a weapon if you attach his energon weapon to a bigger figure.

This is easily the best-looking figure of the Energon line so far, and its surprisingly the least-expensive... I had some apprehensions coming in about the look of the bird-figure, but those were alleviated as soon as I took it out of the box...The detail on the bird is fantastic, and the energon weapons just enhance the look... The transformation from bird to robot is very creative, using the wings as legs and the head as the arms... And the robot form is, um, realistic as far as robots go, with nice shape and normal dimensions (no huge legs, tiny heads, etc)... if there's one problem with the figure, its the same problem with most of the other figures I've come across so far: The super energon weapon, the weapon created when the two are put together, leaves something to be desired... in this case, the weapon is a giant boomerang-kinda thing... Its a minor thing, though, as the weapons taken apart look good on the robot figure... Not to sound like a salesman, but buy it, buy it, buy it... for its price its a great figure...

Best Basic Transformer Figure of All Time,

I'm rediscovering Transformers as an adult (31), and I'm now able to afford all the Transformers I desire - as a kid I was limited to the basic figures only. Therefore I have a *lot* of experience when it comes to the Transformers Basics figures, and DiveBomb takes the cake - including for all previous generations. It is also the only Transformer I've ever owned or used in my entire life I had/have had trouble transforming FROM robot mode. I had more of a knack for the transformations as a kid, it would come naturally, and the Transformers of Yore were designed sturdier IMHO than they are nowadays. I never had any problems with the old school Transformers disjointing. The new ones (including remakes, e.g. the SkyWarp and StarScream which come in bubble packs and not in boxes) exhibit this problem quite often; other friends rediscovering them are of the same opinion.
Regarding the transformation of DiveBomb, I didn't require any directions transforming it TO robot mode, but FROM robot mode; I wish I would have taken notes and that I knew of a web site with explicit directions for Transformers, plus knew several people who would make housecalls to transform it back. It was unnatural and difficult as any transformer I've ever experienced. Much of it was due to the fact that DiveBomb's transformation process is excellently designed and not as one would expect for a winged Transformer. (The wings become the legs and not the arms, as is the case with the vast majority of airplane Transformers.) Please note regarding the directions and modern overpacking, if you are transforming your DiveBomb for the first time, it comes packaged with a well-hidden translucent rubber band around the neck which needs to be removed before step 3 is able to be completed. I did not realize this immediately, as it is not noted in the directions nor anywhere else, and my DiveBomb disjointed for the first time when I was trying to seperate the parts of the head which make up the arms. |
