I love how most of the reviews on this guy are from people who say, "I'll save my money for (insert whatever they think is better)". They never bought it; they never gave it a chance. I bought this toy as soon as I saw it in the store and I never regretted it.

This Prime is very poseable, has lots of action features and loads of play value. Well worth the money. If you are a parent of a TF loving child, he/she will love E-Optimus. He's even backwards compatible with the Armada Minicons. Also, now that the show has debuted on Cartoon Network, kids are sure to want him (it has revived my nephew's long waning interest in Transformers).

If you are a TF collector (like myself), the toy does look strange for a Prime. His proportions are off for what fans are used to, but that is not a big deal once you lay your hands on him. And as for the "HUR HUR, Fatimus looks like a Power Ranger Zord" comments, there have been combiner bots around since way before Power Rangers, and none of them are as cool as Energon Prime.

So, go out and get this guy.

Kids will get a kick out of the versatility of E-Prime. He's a very solid, well-designed toy that will give them hours upon hours of play.

If you are a collector, give him a try. The worst thing that could happen is that like many a discerning Transfan, you end up actually *gasp* liking him. :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't judge a book by its cover, August 12, 2004

Ok first thing first I am 18 and have quite literally played with every single Optimus Prime ever designed (with the exception of Lio Convoy Beast War Japan). This is probably the most fun I've had with a Prime since RiD (robots in disguise) Prime.

There are 3 versions of this particular Prime there is the version with the mouth (discontinuing collectos hint hint)there is one with a FACE PLATE, and there is a face plate with a chrome chest plate and darker colors (this is the Japanese version). People have labeled this toy Fattimus Prime and other such ridiculous names. Yes, he looks a little block in his smaller mode, but so did the original G1 Prime. He evens out size wise when the other piece (vehicles are attached)

OK now for the actually review. This guy looks clean (colorful) but clean. What I mean by this is that the pieces and overall look are balanced. Nothing funny looking. As far as durability is conserned the only problem with mine is that the legs are a little wobbly when you pick it up. Otherwise it stands and poses well. As for kids As long as you don't throw it hard against a wall or drop it out a second story window. It should be ok. Some parts like the door flaps on the chest have a tendance to come off but are easily put back on.

Playability with this figure is simply amazing he's got 16 different ways to set up his legs/arms which in my oppinion is some serious playability. His arms and legs move surprising well and he even stands on carpet.
As far as educational purposes it influency creativity and cordonation. You can roll play just about how ever you want with that variety of vehicles.

There are several figures coming out this fall that can link up with (connect) to this Optimus Prime. They are Omega Supreme (a boat and crane combo) and Wing Saber (an interesting bomber jet). Omega Supreme will cost somewhere between $50-60 and Wing Saber somewhere between $20-30. You add in these other transformers and your looking at near infinate playability.

My only bad thing to say about this Transformer is the lact of creativity with the Trailer. Its a freakin Rhombus with wheels. But at least it gives you somewhere to store those vehicles while Prime is Power linked with another robot.

So for $40 you can't go wrong with this Transformer. And for all of you purists and G1 fanatics I believe that this Optimus Prime is better than the 20th Anniversary/ Master Piece version. At least I can play with this! Kids will love this guy enough said. Well prospective buyers. If you have any doubts about this cool Transformer get it. The pictures of it on amazon and many other sites don't do it justice. look it up in google under images. But this guy still looks 1000 times better in person. Don't let all those that think it looks funny change your mind. This comes from 13 years experience (believe me) this Optimus Prime is one of the good ones. Oh one last thing it needs 2 AAA batteries to light up the matrix chamber in his chest. Well have fun. Be safe. And for god's sake don't point the missle launcher at your little sister.

I about fell over when my son opened this on his birthday this last saturday. This has to be one of the best toys he could have gotten. I'm an Old School Transformers fan, never really got into Energon(it's a little too Anime for my taste) but I must say, this is pretty cool. He got the Omega Supreme too and the two power link together. He's been playing with it nonstop and so has his step-dad. I still have my one true love for the Old School but this one is a Great toy for any boy. And sometimes his Mom...

I recently picked up one of these for my 6 year old son. I was worried he wouldn't be too happy with it, as the show is not airing yet, and he really wouldn't know the character. Needless to say, he loved it! He's never really been into toys much-majority of them he keeps on shelves, and once in awhile he'll play with them. Well, he's been playing with Energon Op for about a week now! He's even taken him to school(boy, was I a bit nervous there!) for show and tell. I actually got some phone calls about it-other parents asking about where they could get one for their kids for christmas. Thanks again hasbro!! Keep up the great work!

This Optimus Prime is a radical departure from the typical Primes of the past. I have heard the complaints that it looks like a Power Ranger, and that the cab robot looks "fat" (how can a robot look fat? I've yet to figure that one out). I have a feeling most of these are from people who haven't actually bought and played with the toy.

I, too, was hesitant, but I took the plunge and decided to buy Energon Prime. As it turns out, he is an incredibly fun toy to play with and a great addition to the exciting Energon line. He is different, yes-- but do you really want the same basic Prime gimmicks over and over? Cab becomes robot, trailer becomes base, they combine into a big robot-- that stuff has been done over and over again in various forms. This is a new Prime, and he's a darn fun one.

Energon Prime comes with a traditional vehicle configuration of cab and trailer. The cab becomes the basic robot. This Prime looks good with a very Prime-like face and many of the typical Prime features (windows on his chest, face plate). The robot form is a bit bulky, but that doesn't keep him from looking cool.

Prime's trailer is actually a housing compartment for four smaller vehicles, Ops 1 - 4. This is basically an extension of the original concept of G1 Prime's "Roller" component. There is a fire truck, a helicopter, a drill tank, and a submarine inside! This packs a lot of play value into one toy! The vehicles can each be launched from their bays, and there is a helipad for Op 2.

Now comes the really cool part. Reconfigure Optimus a bit, and you can attach a vehicle to each of his arms and legs. Now you have a super-powered Optimus Prime! In this mode, Prime is the same size as Energon Megatron, so the two classic adversaries make a good match for each other. He looks a little strange with the orange and yellow in addition to the classic colors, but it's a small sacrifice considering the other advantages of the toy. He is still very poseable in this mode, in comparison with many Primes that become "bricks" once they combine into their larger form. Also, any one of the vehicles can serve as either an arm or a leg, so you can do a whole bunch of combinations and never have the same Prime twice!

I must admit I was wrong about my initial impressions of this toy. I was originally put off by the Megazord-like nature of his configuration, and his un-Prime-like coloring. But I was wrong-- he is a great deal of a fun and a strong addition to the Prime legacy. I hope you don't let the minor stigmas attached to this toy keep you from enjoying it, because you will really be missing out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Transformers Energon: Optimus Prime, December 6, 2003

This review is from: Transformers Energon Optimus Prime Electronic Action Figure (Toy)
The heroic leader of the Autobots, Optimus Prime, returns once again to wage battle against the evil forces of the Decepticons. Optimus converts from a truck into a poseable robot, and includes four "drone ships", OP1,OP2,OP3, and OP4, which he can carry in his trailer (similar to how 1984's original Optimus Prime toy carried the drone vehicle Roller in his). Not only does the trailer house the drones when they are not in use, it also serves as a base and launcher for the four vehicles. With submarine, helicopter, drilling machine, and fire engine drone ships, Optimus is ready to take on any mission! In addition to these features, Optimus Prime can combine with the four drones to create a supermode: Powerlinx Optimus Prime. When in supermode, Optimus stands at approximately 10 inches tall, and is well-articulated. The fact that each drone can attach to Prime as either an arm or a leg offers up a multitude of combination possibilities, further enhancing play. The toy also features electronic lights and sounds, and a projectile launcher.

Packed with accessories and features, this quintessential Autobot leader is quite the toy, and highly recommended! Though it is true that Prime may not be to the tastes of more discerning fans (i.e., the VERY picky "adult" fanbase), trust me when I say that kids are going to LOVE this bad boy.

5.0 out of 5 stars A TRANSFORMER GREAT FOR PARENTS! Really., July 28, 2004

Yes I am a Transformer fan and a dad. I believe the Transformers ENERGON Optimus Prime is a great toy choice for parents. The figure requires a couple of double AA batteries to activate the vehicle sounds. Consider: The truck cab becomes a robot action figure which stands about 7 and half inches tall (the transformations are very easily done and very smooth). It is well made with multiple moving joints at knees, hips, elbows, shoulders and neck. The truck cab and robot make two toys. The cab has free rolling sturdy wheels and really looks like a futuristic truck. The other four vehicles are sturdy quality with rolling wheels and extra features like the drill turns when the vehicle is rolled (even works on carpet and without batteries). The other assault team members have working parts too like the rotor blades on the copter, the ladder on the fire truck and the sub has what appears to be gripper arms for undersea work. The trailer is also very sturdy and has compartments for each vehicle (the copter for example has its own heli pad door). The trailer transforms from truck to command tower with the flip of brace on the bottom. It is trapezoid in shape and looks very much like a car carrier when in truck mode and like a futuristic building in tower mode. The great thing with this set is that all four assault vehicles combine with the Optimus figure to form Optimus Prime Super Mode. Talk about play value: all four vehicles can combine with either a left or right arms or legs to become a body armor extension to Optimus. This means that there are sixteen different combinations with the main figure. Well down Hasbro!

1.0 out of 5 stars The Ultimate Prime Toy!, December 7, 2003
= Durability:2.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Transformers Energon Optimus Prime Electronic Action Figure (Toy)
Optimus Prime, heroic and noble leader of the Autobots, is once again a tractor trailer! It is, at first, a nice throwback to the original Optimus, until you look at it closer and realize that something has gone terribly, terribly awry. . .

Let's start with his vehicle mode. Like many of his Energon brethren, Hasbro/Takara undertook almost no effort to hide the robot parts on the alt-mode. With the arms and head ostentatiously visible as they hang off the cab, a "Robot in Disguise" this ain't. The trailer is another interesting bit of toy-engineering. Someone at H/T must have fond memories of their geometry class, because the aforementioned trailer is shaped like a parallelogram. It also seems a fair bit smaller than it should be.

Stored within the trailer are four bricks... erm, vehicles... which compose the Super Optimus Force! They consist of a drill tank, a helicopter, a fire truck, and a submarine. None of them are transformable. Their appearance is consistent with the cab portion of the toy. They do have a purpose for being there though, which I will get to later.

Optimus Prime's robot mode is... interesting. The first thing that leaps out at you is the fact that he is extraordinarily top-heavy. Optimus must have been binging on Energon in the years since Armada, because he is more-than-a-little tubby. Rather than having the body proportioned efficiently like almost every prior incarnation of the character, this figure doesn't seem as though it would be out of place at a Sumo tournament. On top of that, he has a mouth. Optimii never have mouths. If they do, they are not Optimii. Opening his chest reveals a Matrix-esque compartment, which is a cool nod to TF folklore. Another positive is the toy's durability. The darn thing absolutely refused to break. Believe me, I tried.

The figure does have a rather cool feature, though. By combining the four drone vehicles and the Optimus cab, you can form Ultra Convoy Megazord! Like previous reviews have mentioned, this functionality is not unlike Lion/Vehicle Force Voltron and the Power Rangers. This is the single best feature of the toy, but I cannot say that it makes this package worth the...dollars being asked for it...

I think I'll just wait for Masterpiece Convoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wicked cool Prime, January 2, 2004

First I want you to forget every bad thing you have heard about Energon Prime. He's well priced, not too big and not too small, and enough hidden gimmicks to keep anyone under the age of 100 busy for hours (sorry to anyone older I just had to come up with a number). He's perfect for play. He may not be the most handsome prime in the bunch but no one is perfect. He may look kinda like a megazord but these little vehicles (who don't have transformations which may be the only drawback of the toy, entirely) give you enough modes to wrangle with RiD Megatron. One thing is that he kind of looks like G1 Prime in his normal Robot mode. My favorite feature is that every piece goes somewhere, even the gun has a happy little home on prime's back. I'll end on the note that this toy has a ton of play value because he does alot of cool poses, every joint moves (it's greatest advantage over super Armada Prime) and I'm sure he can do anything he can in the show, but that has yet to be seen.
-Toodles

When I first saw the new Energon Optimus Prime, I was leary of purchasing him. Due to the overall overwieght look. Then I found out morr information, 1st his 4 Vehicles that come with him represent the 4 elements Fire(fire truck), Water (submarine, not a bullet train), Earth(Drill vehicle), and finally, Air(helicopter). I also found out that this Prime can "powerlink" with 3 other characters thus far they are Wing Saber and Omega Supreme and Omega Sentinal. So I decided to go out and get him along with his powerlinking counterparts and am quite pleased with the new Optimus Prime. Even thought the combined Omega Supreme and Prime, Prime's head looks a little small on top of Omegas body but still looks tough
