I was astounded when I picked up Unicron. He is incredible in almost every aspect. Some people complain that the toy is upsetting 8 year olds due to it's difficult transformation. The reason for this problem is simple: IT WAS NOT CREATED FOR KIDS, BUT FOR COLLECTORS!! He comes in the box already transformed, and holding his mini con Dead End. It is no doubt that he is the best of the Armada toy line due to his shear size and look. He stands taller than that of any transformer I have EVER seen (Fortress Maximus may be bigger, I think he is) but Unicron is FULLY posable, well, almost. His fingers can point, flip a bird, hold mincons, grab other bigger figures by the arms and legs, and even do a handstand. His feet are huge and pointy looking, perfect for stabbing role-play. His light ups are neat, and his chest cannon is pretty impressive. His many mini-con storage copartmants and attaching points make him a sold buy, but there are some downsides: The instruction manual stinks, it hardly helps at all, and the wings stink, they usually fall down unless propped on his should on held by his leg (i won't go into detail on what this means exactly, you can figure it out), and he could of been given a lazer rifle, or some kind of big gun, maybe something to launch Dead End (his mini-con) out of. Also, the 45 minutes it took to get him out of the box was boring, some people might give up and take it back, but I wouldn't, because that 45 minutes is worth it because this is the ultimate transformer, he is massive, evil, and just plain cool lookin. Also, for such a MASSIVE transformer, the transformation is VERY SIMPLE. I reccomend to all kids 10+ and all collectors who are Transformer fans. They won't be dissapointed. BTW, he gets only 4 stars of fun for his flaws, and only 4 durability due to his crappy wings.

5.0 out of 5 stars Forget all the bad things you heard about this guy., January 6, 2004

Well, If you read the title and looked at my ratings, you know what to expect. Contrary to what other reviews say, thge only problem with this Unicron is his coloration. I HATE REPAINTS! The old Unicron had better colors. He was golden yellow mostly, with the rounsd planet parts being a translucent purple and a practically clear right hand, six-pack, chest, and leg covers. Still, to each their own, and if you like the colors on this guy, get him. However, you'll need a rather large advance in our allowence if you want to get him yourself. The fifty-dollar price tag is not going to appeal to most kids.
Anyhow, this guy is hard to get out of teh box, so buy a pair of scissors when you get him to speed up the time. if you choose not to do so, you will be waiting about 20-30 minutes to play with him. Now, I suggest leaving the planet covers off the first time you transform him to planet mode, because they don't do too well the first time. Afterwords, just do what I do and leave them on to transform him back and forth. They are too hard to get off to bother with it, and contrary to popular belief, you can transform him leaving the planet covers on his ring-wings. Now then, the transformation. He is NOT too hard to transform, and I think a 7-8 year old could handle it. Just bewarned that not everything is in the instructions. For example: they don't tell you to unfold the feet to prepare him for play immediately after yu get him out of the box. They also don't tell you to push hard to get the ring-wings into the joints. You have to figure those things out on your own. His transformation is rather simple (compared to the RID guys, like Megatron, Ultra Magnus, and Optimus Prime). fold his hands up into fists, swivel his wrists around, fold hands into arms. Push sholders down (hard, to get them all the way), swivel arms forward so he looks like Frankenstein's Monster (your kid should love that part), and bring the entire arms down to the horizontal position, disconnecting the shoulders from the upper body. Swivel elbow joints so arm spikes point otwards, lower crotch-guard, and bend elbows 90 degrees inward so buttons on right arm fit into holds on left. Push c-guard up so it is against the, rotate Uni's hors forward so they point straight at you, flip head back 180 degrees. And I could go on, but this is taking too much time, so I won't.
The minicon traps are NOT too hard to open, so whoever's kid said that is obviously really weak. Also, the toy does NOT speak, on the commercial that was the character talking and theother time it was a kid talking for him. Whoever's kid made teh mistake of telling his dad it talked clearly misunderstood whose voice that was.
In planet mode, this guy can bite. Push those two big pincers on the top together and the mouthpieces will close together (note: you have to push both of them to bite, not one or the other). Also, here's the best part. If you have too many minicons, this guy can support all of them (just about). In robot mode he has three minicon traps, one in his six pack and one in each shin. If you store minicons in there, then transform him to planet mode without removing them, you just made room for three more minicons in P-mode. His ring holds 24 (wow), the missile launchers will each hold one, and Dead End has a special perch right in the middle of all the action.
To wrap it all up, I suggest you buy the Armada Unicron (different and better coloration)and skip this one unless you have no other choice. THe one word that TransFans hate the most is "Repaints" (aaaaaaaaaaaaaghhhhhhhhhhhh!)and tat's exactly what this is. So unless you are desperate to get Unicron and the old version is sold out, or you have the first one but really want this one too, don't waste your money on an inferior paint lob. Get the real deal. Get Burger King. (okay, that was pretty random). Hope I helped you.

Unicron was great, but when I got him I noticed it was harder to transform than I thought. With a little practice, now I am a pro at it. Make sure you check the directions when transforming the hands. I once got them stuck. Be careful loading the chest missle, because it always pops out the first few times you push it in. Overall it is really fun. I would have liked a lower price, but at least they lowered it $10.00. So you if your a transformer fan like me, I believe you will have fun with it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Clearing up some misconceptions, January 8, 2004

I got this for Christmas, and I'll admit I was a little worried. I'd read the reviews on here about its nightmare transformation and shoddy construction. Not to mention its carboard and twist tie prison.
My final verdict?
It's a bloody nightmare to get it out of the box, agreed. Took me half an hour.
The initial transformation was, yes, pretty time consumeing.
Other then that? I absolutely love this thing.
Other reviews mention the wings falling off after having to be forced on. I now see what they're talking about. The wings fit on two ways. One that fits, and one that would break them. If you have to force the thing on, my first reaction was make sure I was puting it on right. I wasn't. it didn't just slide right in the other way, but it was much easier and now works fine. And after that first transformation, I can now transform it to robot in back in five minutes. A parent might have to show the child how to work through it first, but it shouldn't be a problem after that. I proved this on my friend's six year old niece. Walked her through it once, then there was no problem.
Don't just expect your kid to know how, show them.
All in all, I think this is a great toy and fun for kids and collecters

A terrific Generation 1 (or any generation) Transformers toy. this is a black-version of the previously issued Orange Armada toy, with the exception that this appears to be black and has a missile launcher from the chest. Be careful though, TOYS R' US seems to have gotten a whole bunch of their ENERGON UNICRON boxes mis-packed with the ORANGE ARMADA UNICRON. other than the mis-packing (which may or may not prove collectible in the long run), this black version is generally produced in much lower quantities than the first orange version. A MUST BUY!!!

I know a lot of Transformers fans hate repaints, but I'm not one of them. I like a lot of the repaints, and, in my opinion, THIS ONE ROCKS! Great repaint of an already cool toy! I haven't transformed Energon Unicron yet (it's tricky; I could do it, but it's not worth the trouble when he's so much more fun in robot mode!), but his robot mode kicks butt! While I certainly enjoyed the Armada Unicron (especially since his paint job matched the Movie version), I like this one better. The cool neon green, orange, & black make him more menacing a make for a much cooler looking toy. He has MAJOR articulation (wish he could bring his hand to his mouth, though, so I could pretend he's devouring TFs like in the Movie or issue #75 of the Marvel comic book, though.). One of the best TFs ever, and, either in its Armada or Energon version, worth getting! BTW, the Energon version may be hard to find, because A LOT of Energon Unicron boxes have the Armada Unicron packed inside instead.

A Kid's Review

This toy is great! I'm glad that it is so big! The Armada version is harder to transform. Once I blew a balloon up and Unicron "devoured it". The toy is black, with orange energon, and green in some of the lining to show damage. If you lose your directions, it's easy! But if you are inept at it, and you lose them or they're destroyed, I'll give some directions! Take the horns, and put them pointing at you. Then push the head back. Open his wrists and put the arms in. Don't be disappointed if it's hard to open. It'll take time. Be CAREFUL! If a finger is un-even, it will be stuck in the wrists and you'll have to get it out somehow. Now, take the shoulders down and get his arm ready. Now pull down the crotch flap. Get the arms and put them in front of his belly. Connect arms together. Now you have mountains ready to get someone in the stomach. Get his feet on his shin and stretch 'em to his back...that's soothing and painful for poor Unicron. Rotate the missile launchers on his legs towards the front. Get his rings connected. The body/ring connectors with a notch go in the front. Get his wings in front. Connect both wings together. The feet are hard to connect, so leave them alone. Practice the routine until you get it. Don't be disappointed if you don't get it. But try! One more thing, his eyes and replacement hand light up. One MORE thing, have fun!P.S.Careful with the ammo! The chest missile might hurt someone and the leg ammo is easy to lose.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best toy purchase for my money ever!, August 12, 2004

For all of you who had trouble transforming Unicron, you need to talk to my six year old. He got the yellow one last year for Christmas and has played with it literally almost every day since. He was able to transform it right away all by himself without instructions because he can't read yet. He puts it in planet mode and back to robot mode over and over again. He loves it so much that he is begging for the black Unicron for his birthday. He doesn't want anything else. The only flaw was that the horns did break off easily, but that hasn't stopped him from playing with it anyway. Although I thought it was quite expensive, it has been worth the money and I think I'm going to get him the black one for his birthday.

This toy is huge. Its color is way better than armadas.
Unicron is black, grey.orange and green. He is also fully posable. But its super hard to find this unicron. You will probably just find a yellow one in the black ones box. However I suggest you start looking in kb toys. Thats were I got mine.

This is a much better version. He should have been these colors in the first place because he matchs with his enviroment more.I love having this. Its fun having him crush the Energon saber while Optimus is holding it than having Optimus getting crushed. He is the second biggest Transformer made, next to the G1 base my dad has.5 Stars.
