Book Description

Transformers (Titan Books Paperback) April 1, 2003
The galaxy-spanning saga of Transformers: Generation 2 continues...As Jhiaxus and the new Cybertronians continue their remorseless advance across the universe, colonising and mechaforming planets as they go, the Autobots and the Decepticons enter a wary alliance against this common foe. But the threat of Jhiaxus and all he represents pales in comparison to the Swarm, a faceless mass consuming Transformers wholesale. What is it? Where did it come from? The answers strike close to home, and for Optimus Prime only one course of action remains...he must die! Plus, treachery from Starscream (of course), Megatron unleashed and the most shocking ending of all time.

3.0 out of 5 stars Part 2 was only average, June 23, 2004

This is part 2 of the story line. Read the Dark Designs book to get the beginning of this story. So Optimus has united with one old foe to fight a new enemy. Then another threat comes along so Optimus wants to unite with the new enemy too?!? He united two groups to fight a third group, then tries to get the third group to join the alliance and battle a fourth enemy. I needed a scorecard to keep up with the action for a few segments. It's just my opinion but his character came across as a little weak when he did that. That's one of my two big complaints for this book. The story was good, but I didn't think it was an epic masterpiece like another review described it. It got a little too "mythical" for me with the swarm that was explained to be a by-product of the evolution of a race.

Part 1 was great. Part 2 was good until the swarm becomes the focus of the story. I thought it was still an OK story after that, but it was just average. I really enjoyed the sub-plot twist involving Starscream and the Matrix on the Warworld. The ending was a little dissappointing. This is my other big complaint about "Rage." How many times are certain characters going to die and be brought back? The death of a character looses it's punch when they get brought back to life all the time. Overall for me, this book was worth reading, especially after becoming so hooked by Dark Designs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Arguably the Best Transformers Story Ever Written., October 9, 2003
This review is from: Transformers: Rage in Heaven (Transformers (Titan Books Paperback)) (Paperback)
After defeating Optimus Prime, stealing from him the matrix, and giving life to a new army of Decepticons. Megatron is on a galactic rampage. He now commands a moon sized ship of Great destructive potential. Next he has set his sights on acquiring a chemical compound that will render all metal Super dense, following that... He sets out to find the new Generation Of Decepticons that Optimus Prime Warned him about.

But upon finding the army Of Generation 2 Decepticons, He finds his plans of galactic conquest being cut VERY short. Megatrons army engages in battle with the G2 Decpticons, only to be trounced by thier superior technology, power, and numbers. Megatron himself, is defeated by Jhiaxus, the leader of these killing machines. Denounced as a evolutionary throwback, and left for dead, Megatron barely survies. Realizing most of his army was lucky to escape, he seeks a alliance with Optimus Prime, and the autobots, So that they may have a chance at survival against this new menace.

But something more is out there. A lifeform called the swarm, a mass of psychic energy that is the byproduct of the unfortunate and mystical evolution of the transformer race. more then that, like the Generation 2 Transformers that were spawned by that evolution, it to lacks any moral sense of right and wrong. It is a life force that was never given purpose or vision, It is the essance of the brutal killing efficincy that is the G2 Transformers, and is powerful beyond measure. Capable of consuming any mass, and assimilating any and all knowledge from life forms and mechanical and biological data banks, It is now coming to Earth, looking for the race that spawned it into darkness and emptiness, so it can have its revenge.

As The alliance between the Autobots and Decepticons is tested by betrayal, old Quarrels, and suspicion, Jhiaxus rallys his Forces for a final brutal assault on earth, to eradicate his ancestors, and the planet that harbors them. And even if the Autobots And Deceptcons survive that, how will they deal with an enemy that is literally the very sins of thier entire race given psychic form, and capable of eradicating entire planets in mere moments?

This Is the Second part Of Simon Furmans Generation 2 Comic series. Collecting issues 7-12, This series was meant to start a new ongoing series of Transformers. One that was unencumbered by limitations that come by being controlled by a toy company. Thus the story is Far more epic, Earth Shattering, and Death filled then nearly any other Story in Transformers history. It is filled with Bold acts of herroisim and A birth of frienships where there was once hatred. It is a tale of Death and Rebirth that is more mystic Fantasy Featuring the Transformers, then The Sci-Fi mayham of recent series. It also has an ending that is truly touching and thought provoking. One has to wonder with an ending so dramatic, How would the series have gone from there... hopefully someday, Simon Furman Will Continue the tale he began here, For it is Easily one of the Greatist Tales Set in Transformers mythos... If not the best. And Also one of the most moving stories Ive yet to read in my many years of collecting comics.

I recommend picking up this, and its prequal, Dark Designs. The Generation 2 Storyline was meant to be Furmans masterpiece. Thus is a bold and epic storyline filled with shocks and thrills, character and heart. The likes of which Transformers has rarely ever seen. Topping even the epic comic version of the Unicron War, this Story is truly one I reccommend to anyone looking for a good read on a stormy night. TransFans also owe it to themselves to pick up this one if they havnt already.
