Received today and could not be happier!,
This review is from: Transformers: The IDW Collection Volume 1 (Hardcover)
This is a beautiful book and very well put together. I can't wait to read it!For everyone wondering if they should get the premier editions instead of these you get more bang for your buck right here. There is not a dust jacket but when you see the item you are reminded of the old heavy duty school books you had to lug around as a kid. I can not say enough good things about this product. It even has a ribbon book mark attached to it. I have always been a big Transformers fan from the 80's and am pleased to add this item to my collection. Can't wait for future editions to roll out. I must say one thing to those of you wondering... this book is just the comics it states up top. No extras in the back such as sketchs, extra covers or previews.

Great book for any transformers fan, or comic book fan,

This review is from: Transformers: The IDW Collection Volume 1 (Hardcover)
I was a fan of the show as a kid, and have been a comic book fan for a while. I decided to buy this book on a whim to catch up on idw's take on transformers. I ended up buying number two and pre-ordering book 3. It's a great collection, and the book itself is very nice quality wise. The art work is for the most part very good. The only bad thing I can say about it is a lack of extras, and a few of the covers are missing. The absence of extras isn't a really big deal, but lack of covers(only for the last part of the book for the infiltration arc)is kind of sad. Overall if you a fan of the transformers and want to catch up on the idw comic or to just get them in a collection this is the way to go.

I've read IDW's Transformers comics since their inception in 2005. They were passable but not particularly exciting at the time. However, it appears that they were meant to be read in a collection such as this one. Having read through this volume in a couple of sittings I found that they were much more exciting and made much more sense read together than with a one month gap between chapters. I'm enjoying reading all these volumes one after the other much more than I did the single issues.

When I purchased this collection it was around $3o. Now, due to availability, its price has increased. The book is hardback with a cloth ribbon to keep track of ones place in the book. The artwotk and paper quality are top notch. In terms of appearances and overall quality, its a great deal at $30. However, don't expect to be blown away by the writing. The Megatron origins is good, but everything else is so-so. If you are looking for good writing compelling stories this is not for you. If you are looking for a high quality artbook of transformers, this may be for you. If you are a Transformer fan looking for a good compilation of IDW comics, this may be for you.

Ultimate Transformers Book,

This review is from: Transformers: The IDW Collection Volume 1 (Hardcover)
All i can say is wow. This is truly the Ultimate Transformers Edition. The Book is simply amazing. I especially like the oversize of the book which, in my opinion, makes you appreciate the beauty of the art even more. Not only is it well drawn, but the colors they choose are enhancing the experience in every way. This is a great start to the IDW Collection for Transformers. The story is solid and is exactly what you would expect from a Transformers story line. I am so glad i sold my paperback copies of spotlights since they are in those IDW collection. In conclusion, if you are a Transformers fan, you definately have to check out this book. I would say it is a must buy for a Transformers fan. Really looking forward to the next IDW Collection Books.

This has got me back into transformers comics. Great hardcover, superb paper quality and a small ribbon to keep place. The comics are set up the way IDW thinks you should read them. The order is Megatron Origin #1-4, spotlights on Blurr, Cliffjumper, Shockwave, Nightbeat, Hot rod, Soundwave and Infiltratin #1-6 I had no problem with the order IDW set them up in. This is also the my first time reading IDW's Transformers comics and I have to say I'm very happy. There is no sketches, alternate cover etc. Just the comics. Can't wait for vol 2.

This is a fantastic value and contains some great Transformers stories. The art varies throughout the book because this is a collection of stories, and you get only the books stated in the description. It's a heavy book printed on quality paper and has a built in cloth book marker so you won't forget where you are in the collection. The best series in here is definitely the Origin of Megatron. It's worth the price, and you won't be disappointed. IDW has released some great TF books over the past years, and no one writes TF stories better than Simon Furman!

IDW took over the rights to Transformers in 2005 after Dreamwave filed for bankruptcy. Whilst the comics since then have oftentimes been variable in quality, the fact that the company has carried the torch and kept fans supplied with an ongoing story cannot be denied. I was rapt when IDW announced production of the Collection volumes, and even more impressed when I got the product in hand. The volume is beautifully packaged, with gloss over the spine and matte surfacing over the cover art. IDW will be the first to state that the comics are not bound in strict chronological order, but rather in an order where the story can be best appreciated - and I must say it's hard to disagree with the choice so far. Volume 1 is an excellent compilation of Megatron Origin, six Spotlights, and Infiltration. It kicks of the IDW Collection series with a bang, and with value for money that is almost impossible to beat (especially coming form Australia!!). For those who have not gotten into Transformers IDW, there is simply no better way to start! Whilst individual comic reviews can be found elsewhere, for completeness here is my take on those included here (Both numbers out of 10, first # Art, second # Story): Megatron Origin - 7/9 Infiltration - 7/9 Spotlights: Blurr - 8/7 Cliffjumper - 8/8 Shockwave - 7/6 Nightbeat - 5/6 Hot Rod - 7/8 Soundwave - 7/7 |
