4.0 out of 5 stars For a few bucks, you can't go wrong, November 7, 2006
This review is from: Transformers Legends Of Cybertron - Soundwave (Toy)
Back in the 1980's, a lot of kids couldn't afford the bigger Transformers toys like Optimus Prime or Megatron, so a lot of them ended up buying the small minibots such as Bumblebee and Brawn which were a lot smaller AND cheaper.

Over 20 years later, Hasbro has brought back "small", releasing a lot of smaller Transformers toys. This time they've done something a bit different with part of the line, putting out smaller versions of some of their more expensive and larger counterparts.

Soundwave here is one such example. No, this isn't the exact same character as the one a lot of us grew up with, but he's loosely based on the original. Take one look at him, especially in robot mode and you'll see the resemblance. His chest even looks like a cassette deck, although it doesn't open.

Transformation-wise, Soundwave is so-so. Once you get used to him he gets easier but the instructions aren't great and a few of his parts falls off at times when you try transforming him. The good news is that they pop back on very easily, and he seems pretty hard to actually "break." His alternate form is a futurstic looking jet.

Just as a note for collector's, size-wise, Soundwave is a little smaller than classic Mini-bots and a little bigger than the newer mini-cons are.

If you want a modern, full-size Soundwave, Hasbro did release a very similar larger one in their Cybertron line. He even comes with a Laserbeak figure so that one might be worth checking out. But for a feww bucks, you can't go wrong with this one either.
