My son is 4 y/o and has 4 or 5 different Transformer toys. Most of them are complicated to transform and easily come apart, so that now they are in pieces all over the house. This one, by far, is the easiest to transform and the sturdiest. My son is not gentle with his toys, and it has taken all the abuse. It probably wouldn't interest an older child.

These Gravity Bots Transformers are perfect for the young kid who isn't quite ready for the complicated Transformer figures. My son is three. We purchased a few figures that said "4 and up" and "5 and up." I played with Transformers as a kid but some of these new ones are tough. Then I discovered the Gravity Bots! They transform enough that my son is still enchanted and I don't have to hear "mommy transform him to a truck, mommy transform him to a robot" every five minutes. The "automatically converts" concept is a blessing! We've purchased several for birthday parties. I highly recommend if your young one is starting to like Transformers. Older children may get bored with them though. Oh yeah, ours have been dropped several many times on hardwood and tile floors. They hold up well!

I bought my son Bumblebee a couple weeks ago and was very impressed with the toy so I went ahead and got him Optimus Prime as well. The transformer itself looks much more like a robot in the robot form but is not as sturdy as Bumblebee. The wheels seem a bit looser and not as sturdy of a play toy. The first one we got had the button on the bottom of it stuck so it didn't lock into the truck form. There were no problems with the replacement. Still, I feel if I'd bought this one first, I wouldn't have bothered with any others. If your child actually plans to play nicely with the toy, Optimus Prime is fine. My son can be rough on them, and I have a good feeling this bot just isn't going to last.
