I am very impressed with this figure even though i thought i was going to hate it. It is the most durable Transformer figure i own. It looks great in robot mode and has excellent articulation. He uses the smoke stacks from vehicle mode as guns. Prime transforms into a blue and red Peter Built truck. The vehicle mode is also quite nice. Both the robot and vehicle...

This guy definitely doesn't look as authentic as the leader class version in robot mode. I'll summarize a few of the bad points for the robot mode:

-The entire front end up of the truck to the roof of the windshield folds up and creates a bulky huge backpack looking feature on his back! The lazy design pretty much slaps you in the face here.

-The front end is re-replicated on his chest even though you can see the windshield from the truck mode on his back. Looks TERRIBLE and is obviously a very, very sloppy design.

-In several places, the figure has parts that sort of float freely. The shoulderpads that don't snap into place and the wheel covers that fold up on his feet come to mind.

-The weapons look fairly strange also. I've always traditionally seen prime with one cannon (even in the movie), but here he has two identical spring loaded guns.

Apart from these bad points, there are some good qualities:

-This version is considerably more durable than the leader class version. There aren't as many small parts involved with the transformation, and the only really fragile parts are on his legs.

-Of all the voyager class figures I've tried, this one's transformation is by far the easiest and least complicated. After a couple tries it should take 20-30 seconds or less to complete the transformation.

-The bulky front-end backpack balances the figure, making him a bit more poseable.

-Truck mode looks decent.

If you want a Prime figure for the kids this wins out over the leader class, but for any collector other than the most meticulous, I'd say this is passable.

One gripe. This Movie Voyager prime is not tall enough by my standards compared to the other Transformers. So I will be purchasing the leader class optimus prime. The reason this will not hurt the rating is because this is a movie voyager and can only be but so big.

This guy was my third transformer. After a while the missles have trouble staying in the cannons. The trick to making him stand up is that his feet unfold more than they seem to. This guy serves his purpose as audobot leader.

4.0 out of 5 stars Better alternative to DOTM voyager OP, August 26, 2011

If you are looking for an easy to transform, movie version Optimus Prime, than this version is much better than the new DOTM version. He is larger, better proportioned, and has more articulation. His engine "backpack" is a bit of a draw back, but his truck mode is much better than the current one.

I was searching which Movie's Optimus to buy. So i compared between all Movies Voyager Class (included NEST, ROTF and first movie)and this was the winner. This Optimus Voyager Class is much more cool than the newest hasbro had made. Except by the guns and the backpack (many figures has it, even worst) this guy is very awesome, the rigth colors in robot and vehicle mode, good shape in both modes, good size and good transformation. The bad things are insignificants in this case for me.

The good: Excellent colors and paint details (i love it). Good shape in robot and vehicle mode. The "fake driver" in vehicle truck mode is a wonderfull thing.

The bad: The backpack (like many others transformers). The guns (just a little weird). Some delicate parts (but cool), just handle with care.

The verdict: In Truck Mode 10 of 10 (i like it so much). In Robot Mode 9 of 10 (because the backpack and guns).

We bought this Optimus Prime for my 5-year old after we had bought the Bumblebee for our 3-year old for his birthday. The Bumblebee was a good product and stayed together for the most part, with just a few pieces that would constantly fall off. The Optimus toy was a whole different game. It was hard to "transform" from car to robot and back. At least 6 pieces have fallen off, two every time we try to transform it. The Bumblebee takes 30-45 seconds to transform, while the Optimus probably takes more like 5 minutes. Its really frustrating for the kids, who are pretty gentle on these two toys (their favorites for the moment, and knowing that they have pieces that fall off constantly). I don't know if i would recommend this toy unless its to be transformed and left on a shelf to collect dust.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not so great, January 5, 2010
= Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:1.0 out of 5 stars

Not one of the better transformers. His chest is a complete facade while the real windows along with the rest of the cab hang awkwardly off his back. But overall the robot mode looks really cool from the front. The transformation of his legs is pretty cool with lots of moving parts, but the rest of the transformation is pretty straightforward.

This Prime is the best Voyager class figure in the 2007 line and the second best toy in the '07 movie line behind leader Brawl. His vehicle mode is a mostly accurate Peter built truck with a neat little guy that disappears when you open the driver side door. In robot mode he looks great with his smokestack weapons and although he has a huge and cumbersome looking backpack it is actually quite manageable. Articulation is nice but be careful of the panels on his legs as they may come off during transformation. However, anything that falls off can easily be put back on so he is a great gift for younger collectors.

Bottom line,
I recommend this figure as the best Prime made in the 2007 movie line.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bad Figure...NOT!, January 11, 2009
= Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:1.0 out of 5 stars

Three words:OPTIMUS PRIME ROCKS!!!I don't understand why this guy gets bad reviews because he is awesome! His truck mode is amazingly movie accurate, although there is a mechanism that pops a little man in the window to look like a truck driver which I eventually had to superglue in,but other than that this guy has an excellent truck mode.He also has a simple and cool transformation which leaves one awesome looking robot. In robot mode he has two guns which fire two missiles,as well as fully posable arms and legs.My only problem with his robot mode is the mechanism that holds his knees together eventually becomes loose and his knees seperate, but if display only is your game you won't have that problem.Don't listen to these bad reviews. This is a great Optimus Prime that fans young and old will love.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun toy, but a bit complex for some, January 2, 2009
= Durability:3.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Transformers Movie Voyager Optimus Prime (Toy)
First, I want to make a note about the price of this item. This figure retails at about $19.99. As of the time of this writing (January 2009) it is priced at about $37.00 here at amazon, which is a bit much. I'm positive I've seen these going for the $19.99 price at Wal-Mart, so I'd recommend checking out the local shops first before buying here.
Now as for the actual product...
I had wanted a figure of this character from the movie, and was considering the Leader class, but didn't feel like forking out the $40 or $50 it cost at the time. However, this figure is a good substitution. Compared to it's larger counterpart, it looks slimmer and sleeker, and not so bulky, although the larger is packed with more features and is definitely more complex.
Not that this figure is not complex. It has given some people trouble (as some reviewers give it a pretty low rating due to their inability to transform it). So if you want to pick one up, you should be prepared. If you're not used to Transformers, this may not be a good choice, whether as an adult or child. I also wouldn't recommend him for smaller, younger children.
Anyway, they did a pretty good job of approximating what the character looks like in both modes, and the transformation process was a decent challenge for me (but I'm used to Transformers). He also features the "automorph" ability, which means if you move one part, another part moves in place by itself. This feature is confined mostly to the lower leg sections, and one has to remember not to hold on to certain pieces while using it.
He features a good deal of possibility, with bendable arms, legs, knees and elbows, and also comes with two missile launchers. Maybe it's just mine, but the launchers are a bit loose, meaning they fire when not intended to. All in all, I'd say a pretty good figure. Also, he's scaled more accurately to most of the other deluxe and Voyager class figures of the line. But like most figures, a little time will probably be needed to convert him.
