4.0 out of 5 stars optimus prime
I bought this for my son's 7th b-day. He was very excited about it, but the first time he played with it, a piece fell off. We still can't get it back on. This didn't stop him from playing with it though. He still loves it anyway. Overall a great toy but I wish I hadn't payed 30 bucks for it. I would be happier had I only payed 15-20 bucks.

3.0 out of 5 stars Retro-Prime
First things first, I don't like the movies. It's not that they're bad so much as they're not any good. In fact, I was so unhappy with the first film that I swore I would never add a movie prime to my collection. An oath I have since broken, several times over. This guy was the first.
I finaly broke down and got him for two reasons, 1: his gen 1 color scheme.

This is poorly made, small parts, hard to transform, not meant for kids to play with - not worth buying...

I finaly broke down and got him for two reasons, 1: his gen 1 color scheme.
2: he was on sale. And in truck mode, the repaint works. If gen one prime had been rebuilt as a long-nose after his temporary demise, he may well have looked like this. In robot mode, ironicly, he's less gen 1ish than other primes of the same mold with red legs in place of blue. Oh well, you can't have your energon and eat it too... Not my favorite Prime, but also not the worst I've seen.

My 5 yr old loves the Transformers, and loves this toy. We got it for his 5th birthday. He plays with it daily. The arm sometimes pops off when my son gets impatient trying to transform it, but its made to pop right back on (Thank Goodness)

3.0 out of 5 stars Way more complex than product description describes, August 30, 2008

I bought this toy for my son's 5th birthday - he's a huge fan, and one of those kids who's into everything, taking things apart and generally tinkers with stuff. After several hours of messing with it, he finally got the hang of it (us adults haven't yet). It would have helped knowing that it takes 13 steps to transform from rig to autobot. Also, if pieces are moved too much in the wrong direction, they come apart (better than breaking) so you end up with several pieces you're not sure where they go. May be better for ages 7 and up instead of 5. But if you want to keep a kid who's always pushing buttons and taking things apart entertained, this should do the trick.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good one, October 10, 2008

Didn't really like the movie truck design too much initially, but after watching the movie a few times, I decided I wanted it real bad! :-)

Overall, I'm really happy with it, though I wanted the version with the flame decals (out of stock), instead of Prime's 'classic' colors.

Good points:-
- Not too complex to transform. The instructions were pretty detailed and it took me about 5-7 minutes.
- Very stable on his feet! He's got nice, long feet and they take the weight of his body very well. Good balance too and very posable.
- Considering he's a 'voyager' class, Prime is taller in height when in robot form than my other voyagers (Classics Megatron & Ultra Magnus, Movie Thudercracker, Animated Starscream) and very close to height as my WingSaber ('ultra' class).
- Cab door that opens, autobot symbol on the front are all nice details.

Quibbles:-
- The front end of the truck folds up behind him like a 'back-pack'. Seen from the side, it looks like Prime really is carrying a backpack! I think those parts could have been detached and placed elsewhere.
- The smokestack-cannons are a bit long and sort of un-Prime-like. I've never seen Prime weild two guns, and I don't want to start now! What's even worse is when you store them behind his back in robot mode - they're way too tall and look like antennaes or lightning conductors!

Even then.... it's still one of my favorites.
