The Platinum Series Packaged Grimlock Vs. Bruticus is far better than buying the parts separately. Both Grimlock and the five Combaticons included in this set are better than their individual packaged FoC Hasbro counterparts - Notice I said Hasbro.

Grimlock
This figure is a great representation of the Grimlock character in Fall of Cybertron. The robot mode is everything a fan of the character would want - Tall, bulky and tough looking. It is also very posable.

Included accessories include a sword and a shield. Also included is a button to light up the dinosaur head (which is stored in the chest while in robot mode) that lights up Grimlock's chest.

The dinosaur mode is also satisfying, although one could complain the T-Rex head to be a little small and the chest to be a little hollow. A button on the dinosaur head when pressed will light up his mouth and cause his jaws to open. Grimlock's sword and shield can both be stored on the outside of the dinosaur body.

The transformation is pretty simple and this figure will be a hit for both collectors and kids.

The Platinum Grimlock included is the best version of FoC Grimlock. It is better painted than both the Hasbro and Takara versions and (as an homage to the original Grimlock)is the only version with a reflective shiny gold chest plate.

Bruticus/Combaticons
These Combaticon figures do not make the perfect transformers and Bruticus is not a perfect Combiner. Generally, they are FoC game accurate transformers. Hasbro/Takara hasn't made too many good Combiners/Gestalts in quite a while. FoC is a really good effort and should be rewarded.

One of the complaints universally leveled at the Habro version of the FoC Combaticons is their bright "skittles like" color.

Transformers Platinum Edition Grimlock vs Bruticus is part of the Hasbro's Transformers 30th Anniversary Platinum line. Now, almost everybody's reason to buy this set is to obtain a SDCC Bruticus but not pay aftermarket prices. SDCC Bruticus's price ranges up to almost $200 - and that's not even half of the ridiculous prices scalpers force you to pay! However, with this set, not only do you obtain an exact replica of SDCC Bruticus, you also receive a Voyager Grimlock from the FoC toyline. I'll cover him later in this review, mainly because he's the icing on this plastic cake.

Individual Reviews:

Blast-Off: Blast-Off is a Cybertronian space shuttle and he is a decent vehicle and robot mode. However, his gestalt mode is horrendous. His vehicle mode, in my opinion, is my favorite out of all 5 Combaticons. Minor paint applications would've been fantastic on his engine but it's not major. Transforming him is simple but a problem that he shares with the other Combaticons is that he has tabs that are prone to breaking. When connecting his shoulders, he has tiny tabs that you must put force on into his back. I recommend not tabbing them in. Just don't do it. His robot mode is actually quite nice. He has pretty big shoulder pads that give him an interesting look. However he is pretty loose. He just does not want to stand so it is difficult for me to pose him. Hopefully others do not face the same problem I have. Now, his arm mode. Blast-Off forms the right arm of Bruticus and well..it's horrendous. The arm form is elongated and is just so disproportionate to the rest of Bruticus's body. All in all, decent figure with a simple transformation. But a gigantic, gorilla arm of some sort along with tabs prone to breaking (all of the figures have this problem) keep him from being perfect.
