Transformers Prime Powerizers Optimus Prime is one of the best!I do own the first edition Optimus also and can honestly say this is almost as good as the first edition with cooler weaponary.I have looked at other reviews and seen the complaints against this version and they are all B.S.!Granted the first edition has better screen accurate detail, but that is the only big difference.I love the first edition Optimus, but I can also appreciate Powerizers Optimus Prime for what it is-a very good, solid kick-ass transformer that all will enjoy.Granted the first edition Optimus is the better of the two,but this powerizer version has just as good of quality all around.I have had none of the problems stated in other reviews in transforming Optimus back and forth into both modes.Optimus comes with energon decor on the arms and very good screen accurate detail overall in truck or robot modes. The Autobot Commander comes with a combat sword and battle blaster which attach in the hand and on the forearm in robot mode while being stored behind the cab in truck mode. The battle blaster activates a cool energon glow for realistic action. All pieces fit securely together during transformation into either mode as well. The poseability is outstanding with awesome stablity for creating cool battle scenes and poses for displaying where you please. The durability is excellent as well with secure joints and a solid build in either robot or truck mode. The transformation level is intermediate meaning if you have plenty of experience there is mid-level difficulty. If you are a parent buying for a child of 5-6 or younger they might need assistance in the transformation process.Optimus has a very versatile transformation most ages can handle with practice.Read more ›

I've been looking for an optimus prime figure that looks like optimus prime (to me) and transforms into a (regular) truck. This is a voyager class transformer so it's a little taller and wider than the 'typical' transformer (bigger box) and a little more expensive. Some of the pictures on amazon have a 'stylized' version, which I guess you could get if you painted/photoshopped the toy, but it's still an impressive toy. He comes with a sword and 'light up gun', which requires you to push it to extend & light it up. The figure itself feels robust and stands up quite easily. He's pretty easy to pose. I'm happy with the transformation - it's complex enough that it's not immediately obvious, but my wife, who doesn't play with transformers, was able to do it on her own after a few tips. I like the truck looks like a truck and doesn't look like a space car or have spikes on it like some of the current models. When in truck mode, the sword and gun can fit into the 'back', but it feels more like a holder than 'vehicle weapon' like some of the other toys so this may detract for some folks.

My 4-year-old just received this as a gift. He loves it, but it takes a fair amount of work to convert Optimus Prime into a truck and back again. He can't do it himself and needs our help every time he wants to change it around, which is pretty frequently. This toy would be fine for elementary schoolers, but the Rescue Bots line of Transformers is much easier for preschoolers to use independently.

The Transformer "Prime" line is my favorite out there, but this is the one exception. While the model stays true to the "Prime" cartoon series, it is difficult to transform and does not stay solid in robot or vehicle mode. I have to transform it for my five year old son, which is not unusual for the "Voyager" class, but it quickly becomes loose. My biggest complain that his chest piece flips up constantly in robot mode. My son cannot lift one of his arms up without the whole chest piece flipping up during play. Very annoying for any child or parent dealing with the constant complaints.

As a collector, I would skip this version as well. I still think the original G1 version of Optimus from the 1980s is the best or go with the Prime "First Edition." You will spend more money on either, but it will be money better spent for your collection. This one is not worth the coin.

Now my boyfriend's friends think that I'm a ridiculously cool girlfriend, which is, in fact, true. My boyfriend loved this present (for his 26th birthday, mind you) and has been playing with it since. I want one of my own.

My Nephew loves this item. His parents said it's not AS difficult to transform as some of the other ones he has, but it still takes quite awhile. He's only 5 and does need adult help to get it fully transformed.

This was a big winner at my son's 5 year birthday party. He was so excited we had to restrain him before he started gnawing through the package to try to get to the toy. After he got it out, he was even more excited that it had so many moving pieces and could, theoretically, transform from it's out-of-the-box robot form into something that looks like a tractor trailer truck.

Theoretically.

Don't misunderstand. My son still loves this toy a week later, and I think it's fantastically designed and I would buy it again (but probably won't need to because it seems pretty sturdy). HOWEVER - the thing comes with a little instruction manual that gives you pictures of how to transform it from robot to truck to robot.... like 25+ pictures (per transformation). And the pictures really honestly don't help.

So I definitely recommend buying this if you have a kiddo interested in Transformers because it's a great toy - but commit a couple of hours (or days) to figuring out how to get it to shape shift because - wow.
