4.0 out of 5 stars Scout Prime?
From the ROTF line comes this homage to Prime. Okay, not exactly, but he and his repaint share several similarities with Prime and Ultra Magnus.

I purchased this toy to go with my "Blue Team" of scouts and he is perfect among them. Sure, he has short stubby arms, but this robot is still great to have. He is a Red Bull homage wrapped in a Prime homage! Come...

3.0 out of 5 stars Red Bull gives you wings!
Rollbar is a delivery truck with a Red Bull style logo on the side. To be honest Rollbar is one of the more disappointing scout class transformers in my collection. The Truck mode is fairly simplistic with a huge ugly hinge running down the side. I do dig the gray, royal blue and teal color combo, hopefully they'll use it in the future on a better mold. He does look a bit...

He has his flaws, the transformation is a little difficult to position, the arms are short, and his artululation is a little... off... compared to others in the same line. Still, if you are making a scout set, then this is a good one to have.

He does look a bit dinky on a shelf next to deluxe or voyager class and even fellow scout class transformers.

His transformation is pretty simplistic. The truck splits down the top and the robot sort of stands up out of that into position. Then it's just a matter of fiddling a few panels into place. The only point of interest is the auto-morph style gimmick of his chest plate and truck front rotating into place and his head popping up. The robot mode is pretty boring. Very limited articulation and he wears a serious backpack of vehicle parts, huge wings made from the truck roof! Oddly his head seems to be very closely inspired by Optimus' head.

Roll bar would be a great choice for younger children as he is simple to transform and very solidly built. Older kids would probably be bored with his rather austere decoration and lack of gimmickry. And most adult collectors beyond completists should just save their money for a better mold. But if you simply must have him I would spend more than a couple of bucks on him. Rollbar is a truck that only delivers mediocrity.

3.0 out of 5 stars ROLLBAR ROLLS OVER, December 22, 2009

This review is from: Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen Movie Scout Class Action Figure Rollbar (Toy)
Rollbar is a scout-class autobot from the second live action movie toyline, REVENGE OF THE FALLEN. I grew up with G1 transformers, but I've been getting the recent transformers for my son. Mostly he's gotten deluxe and voyager class transformers, and Rollbar was his first scout class toy. Rollbar is a blue-and-gray robot who transforms into an energy-drink delivery truck.

Scout-class figures are about 4" tall, which is distinctly smaller than other transformers in the line. Because of its small size and supposedly simpler transform, I assumed that it was designed for younger children. My experience is that this is not the case. First, the transformation is very simple in design but difficult to peform; there is a double hinge which rearranges the torso in position to the truck shell. It is very difficult for me to get the leverage to work this motion and my 5yo son can't do it at all. I don't believe that it is an issue of tight joints, but just nowhere to gain purchase on the moving parts. The other major problem are the pop-off parts. These are made to pop apart rather than break when forced; unfortunately, Rollbar's chest plate (which becomes the back of the truck) has no clear indication of the correct orientation. Of course, it has to be the right way for the transform to work, but it isn't obvious if you put it on backwards. This has caused a lot of frustration for me.

Finally, a delivery truck just isn't a very exciting altmode. I realize not every little autobot can be a sleek sports car when they grow up, but combined with his difficult transform and small size makes for a not very interesting toy. My son just poses him and leaves him on the shelf. While I'm sure that there are others out there who have no problems with Rollbar, as a general recommendation I say leave him alone and focus on the deluxe and voyager class toys.
