5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best IDW Transformer stories yet!
If you're like me, you read the previous installment in the Transformer series and were disapointed. I really can't point out many things specifically that were bad about Infiltration, except IMOHO, it was slow. Too slow, and I didn't care to see things from the humans' perspective. I wanted to see what the Autobots and Decepticons were thinking more.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best IDW Transformer stories yet!, August 1, 2007

If you're like me, you read the previous installment in the Transformer series and were disapointed. I really can't point out many things specifically that were bad about Infiltration, except IMOHO, it was slow. Too slow, and I didn't care to see things from the humans' perspective. Well, then we come to Stormbringer, which nearly makes up for Infiltration IMO.
To my amazment, Stormbringer was only 4 issues long (I bought the individual comics, not the TPB)!
This issue stars both Jetfire (as the Classics Jetfire) and optimus Prime in a pre-earth version of himself.
The story apears to happen at the same time as Infiltration, and illuminates some of the events on Cybertron, and even tells how the Transformers had to abandon their homeworld.
But back on Cybertron, a cult of Transformers has found a way to survive there anyway, and is trying to resurrect an evil that has slept for all this time, while trying to recreate the same technology that brought about this evil.
What's so great about Simon Furmans' writing is that he doesn't just recycle all the old stories, but comes up with new, original stuff, based on the old toys. Here, we see a variety of characters, many of which I was unfamilier with, used in different ways. This story is fresh and new, not the same old blah.
For the price, at Amazon, the TPB is ok, although it was originally only 4 issue long.
But I would say it's much, much better than Infiltration.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great miniseries!, April 20, 2007

Awesome 4-issue adventure. No humans. Great artwork by Figueroa, with colours by awesome Josh Burcham. The return of Thunderwing, Bludgeon and the Wreckers, fan favourites from the classic Marvel run.

Real price is 17'99. Too expensive for only 104 pages (4 issues + a few extras), but fortunately a little cheaper if purchased from Amazon. Even though, for the same price, the Infiltration TPB is a much better purchase. Anyway, Stormbringer is a great read, and includes both a cover gallery and sketch gallery by Don Figueroa.

Paper quality and colours are first class.

4.0 out of 5 stars robot action aplenty, February 4, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Transformers: Stormbringer (Paperback)
The best reason to get Stormbringer is for Don Figueroa's artwork. Seeing him render some of my favs from G1 (Technobots, yeah!) is always a treat. I would buy this for Fig's artwork alone.

This is vol 2 in the all-new rebooted IDW TF universe. You should read this after Infiltration, even though it looks like events in this one takes place along side Infiltration. This one is pure robots, no stupid humans getting in the way. The action takes place almost exclusively on Cybertron with just a little Nebulos thrown in. I gotta give props to Furman for actually coming up with a good reason for the Pretender shells, one of the stupidest ideas to come out of G1. The ending is a little disappointing, which is what brings the score down to 4 stars. They build up this great villain that seems like could destroy entire worlds and then... well, I won't spoil it. Go experience the disappointment for yourself. But the great artwork make this a required purchase for any G1 TF fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Review for "Stormbringer", December 16, 2008
This review is from: Transformers: Stormbringer (Paperback)
"Transformers :Stormbringer by Simon Furman and Don Figeroa is great read for any hardcore transformers fan. The artwork in this book is phenominal and the story is quite engaging. The one drawback of this book is the length (or lack thereof)of the story. There is a rushed sense of storytelling and therefore leave the reader wanting more.the main battle with Thunderwing was over before it started and the whole tale should have been fleshed out more. If this were a movie I could understand the almost "overview" style, but a graphic novel has no excuse.

Taking place simultaniously alongside Infiltration, Stormbringer fills in the gaps between the Cybertronian Civil War and the new IDW Continuity. Here furman brings back his favorite characters from the old continuities Bludgeon, The Wreckers, and Thunderwing, who's mutated into an invincible force of destruction.

Once again Jetfire is captured and force to watch from behind the scenes as Bludgeon starts to unleash all kinds of Hell. As Prime faces off with Thunderwing, who defeats the Wreckers with ease, he rips of a long, preachy rant about the futility of war. Lucky for him, Thunderwing ran out of juice, for now. In the end, Prime finds a link between this event and one occuring on Earth, which now has his attention.

The artwork is incredible, and the story underwhelming. Same characters doing the same stuff, it just looks prettier. Highly recommended for fans of Furman and completists. Others may want to pass it up.

4.0 out of 5 stars GREAT TF STORY, August 4, 2008
This review is from: Transformers: Stormbringer (Paperback)
This TPB has another great TF story from Simon Furman. It's a little short for my taste but the plot is quite good and character interaction is awesome! The art from Don Figueroa is spectacular as usual but, there are some panels that look rushed and not up to his high standards. The paper quality is A+

5.0 out of 5 stars Best of the Best, March 13, 2008
This review is from: Transformers: Stormbringer (Paperback)
For adult fans of the series, especially the War Within - Furman and Figueroa pick up where Dreamwave left off. Great depth and art. Refreshing to not get a story dumbed down for teenagers. Art sets the bar for the Transformer brand.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another great Cybertron story, November 10, 2007

Another great must have Transformers story for those fans who love Cybertron centric story lines. No humans around for this gig, but there are plenty of mythological references to amply substitute.
