Good, but Not Great,

This review is from: Transformers: War Within Volume 1 (Transformers (Idw)) (v. 1) (Paperback)
The story stays centered on Optimus. He has just been given The Matrix of Leadership, and he learns and comes to terms of what that encompasses. The Constructacons, and Grimlock are major characters. In the cartoon they were created on earth after the cybertron insurgency. Obviously there is artistic liberties taken on the timeline, as well as Grimlocks personality. The configuration of the panels gets dull, no major battlescapes. Seeing our characters in their cybertron transforming formats is exciting throughout.
The ending doesn't make a lot of sense, but the plot does have a nice pace with a few twists.

I have been a long time Transformers fan and was always very skeptical on different new series or generations that came along. I have a lot of my original G1 toys and comics and my oldest son now is into Trtansformers BIG TIME. So I decided to look into getting some new and old comics, a friend of mine insisted that I read the "War Within" and so I went online and found Volume One and Two and have been very surprised on a well writen series, my son loves it and I have to read it to him every night before bed. If you want to catch up on an old childhood favorite, this is a preety good series.

Pretty, Ambitious, But Missing That Certain Something...,

Good art, interesting premise and some very cool moments highlight this Transformers "prequel" series. Some questionable narrative decisions and a somewhat disorganized structure detract from the enduring appeal of this work, but even so, it is a fun read for Transformers fans, especially if you are able to enjoy it as an alternate take on the setting's history, rather than canon.
