5.0 out of 5 stars Very Good Read, August 22, 2007

This review is from: Transformers: War Within Volume 2 (v. 2) (Paperback)
I really enjoyed the entire War Within Series, mostly because the focus is on the Trannies and not on humans or Earth. It's nice to see them on their planet and in their element.

Furman does his usual stellar job with writing a mythology into what often becomes a "book about a toyline" title.

If you like Cybertron or the Transformers Origins Mythology, try this one out!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not the version to get, February 4, 2009

This review is from: Transformers: War Within Volume 2 (v. 2) (Paperback)
Overall, the story of Vol 2 is solid and will not disappoint any mature TF fan. Vol 1 of the series sets up the stage for conflict, and Vol 2 picks up the action some time later. Prime and Megs have gone missing, and with their absence both sides have split into multiple factions. I like this idea a lot, it adds many more dimensions to the simple theme of heroic Autobots vs evil Decepticons. Added to the chaos is the Fallen, a mysterious figure that appears to be manipulating all sides for his own agenda.

The are issues that bring down the overall rating to 3 stars. Like an earlier reviewer has mentioned, the conclusion is anti-climatic. I won't spoil anything either, but the situation gets resolved at the end a little too easily. Amazon also incorrectly listed the artist as Don Figueroa when it is really Andrew Wildman. While Wildman's artwork is decent, it doesn't compare to the awesomeness of Figueroa, who did Vol 1 and is hands down the greatest TF comic artist of all time. And perhaps worst of all, I believe this version is a re-print that came out right before the TF movie. My friend has another version of Vol 2 (with Fallen on the cover as opposed to Jetfire) that contains extras for the WW universe, such as a faction chart and WW concept designs. These extras were brutally removed in this version in favor of a comic book preview/prequel to the TF movie. While the artwork of the prequel is great (done by none other than Fig himself), I got this book for the War Within features and I feel they should have left in all the WW extras. I'm not sure if the upcoming WW Omnibus will contain these extras.

So overall, War Within vol 2 is a solid read, but I recommend getting the other version over this one, if you can find it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great reading material, January 16, 2012

I have "Transformers War Within" Volume one and that was a well written book so I decide to purchase Volume Two through Amazon and I have not been disappointed at all with this book. Good book and great story line. My son likes me too read this story to him before he goes to bed and it is a good way to have a little father son bonding time. I highly recommend this series if y'all are looking to catch up on the Transformers or just to re-live your happier times as a child.
