1.0 out of 5 stars A madcap yarn about the adventures of a chuckwagon dandy in the Old West was what I was expecting., April 16, 2008
This review is from: Transforming Campus Life (Studies in Education and Spirituality) (v. 1) (Paperback)
I have to be honest I was expecting a simple story about three lonesome cowboys on a cattle drive who begin to have feelings for oneanother after enjoying trail meals together. Instead, I received a book written by one Vachel Miller, an author who obviously lacks insight into the cowboy culture. I was confused by the author's insistence to use ostentatiously large words when words such as "Tex" "Hand" and "Rusty Steer" would have been more appropriate.

Miller is obviously no Louie Lamour and I suspect he has never put on a pair of chaps in his life. He may even be allergic to spurs and saddles, which makes him a poor candidate to write a book about the blossoming of male on male attractions while roping large cows.

I applaud Miller for his inventive wit and his inisght into college spirituality but his attempts at examaning the inner life of Dusty and Cal left me strangely cold.

If I met Miller in a bar I would want to ask him three questions.
A. Does he even own a bolo tie?
B. Why does he continually talk about campus spirituality?
C. Does he enjoy reading select your ending books such if you are an elf warrior would it be a better idea to climb the fire mountain or cross the enchanted bridge?

I make this statement because I believe his book would have been more exciting if there were dragons and fairies in his book rather than endless discussions about paradigms and the role of education on spiritual affairs.
