Book Description

December 6, 2009
The Transition Trilogy is the most widely read transgender diary. Written by transgender community pioneer, Melanie Anne Phillips, this groundbreaking personal journal captures the experience of changing sex, documented day by day as it happened. Volume one, Raised by Wolves, begins with Melanie's first day of hormone therapy and continues through sex reassignment surgery. Volume two, Boiled in Oil, explores the evolution of Melanie's personal and professional relationships as she adjusts to her new life with her family, friends and business associates. Volume three, Skinned Alive, documents Melanie's search for inner peace, having realized that her surgery didn't solve her problems but merely clarified them. The Transition Trilogy is an essential read not only for those pursuing sex reassignment surgery but for anyone considering a major change of lifestyle.

About the Author

Melanie Anne Phillips is a prolific author, filmmaker, photographer and composer. She is primarily known as the founder of the transgender community on the World Wide Web and as the co-creator of Dramatica - a new theory of story structure that is the basis for the most widely used software for story development (also called Dramatica). As a boy she began a career in filmmaking and music, eventually directing two feature films before the age of thirty and recording over thirty hours of original music. During transition she kept a daily journal which has become the most widely read transition diary. She also maintained an audio journal with includes not only her gender experiences but a progressive development of Dramatica-based theory called Mental Relativity which culminates in her proposal of a unified field theory. Today, Melanie continues her creative and intellectual activities, developing new models of psychology and physics, composing experimental music, photographing nature, and editing her previous works to make more of the material available for publication.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book!, February 10, 2010

This review is from: The Transition Trilogy: A transgendered woman's journey of self-discovery (Paperback)
As titled, this is three books published in one volume. I found the first two interesting and swift going. The third, while even more enthralling (to me), is giving me more food for thought. Melanie makes her choices and tells you why. Whatever your opinion of her reasons, these reasons are well thought out and carefully explained. I am finding little nuggets - almost aphorisms - in what she writes. I even copied one down and took it to my Buddhist teacher! She finally agreed that it was a fairly accurate wording of how Buddhism understands the mind but not necessarily of "reality." (I may be at fault for not explaining Melanie's case correctly).
