5.0 out of 5 stars A Good Book for Insight, February 15, 2007

This review is from: Translating for King James (Paperback)
This book is one of three published on translating for King James by the author Ward Allen. These books turn on the light in an otherwise dark room and give insight into the process and labor that went into the translation of the most significant Bible in English history. Featuring the only surviving documents written by an original translator, John Bois, and carefully translated into English, one feels as if one has stepped back into the early 1600's and grappling themselves with task of a lifetime.

"..... THIS BOOK HAS BEEN DESIGNED FOR BOTH SCHOLAR AND GENERAL READER.

For the scholar, the manuscript is reproduced photographically, in full.

For the general reader, an edition of the notes appears on facing pages to the manuscript: there is printed a translation of the Latin portion of the manuscript, a transliteration of the Renaissance Greek characters into contemporary symbols, with the errors of the Greek in the notes silently corrected, and a transcription in italics of the English portions of the manuscript....."

This review is from: Translating for King James (Paperback)
Very little in the way of recorded notes has survivied the centuries since the 1611 KJV was written. This book contains notes originally made by John Bois, one of the translators. It is a good book to have as it shows the thoughtful, reverent, deliberative, exhaustive reach of men well versed in the ancient tongues, and the Word of God. There is but one mar to this book, a fault it continued from its original hard bound volume. That fault is to have an errata sheet of corrections where the customer is expected to make pen and ink corrections in the transcribed sections. This could have been done by the book publishers, but thankfully at least, the errata sheet is provided, a blessing that perhaps the original hard bound book did not have. For serious Bible students, particularly of the Authorized Version (KJV) believers, adherents and students, this book is worthy of your studies. Recommended, four out of five stars.
