5.0 out of 5 stars Delightfully Informative, March 17, 2007
Translation as a Profession, by Roger Chriss, should become the gold standard for achieving success in the translation profession. It is simply the best single source of information on this topic that is available today. The writing is effortless to follow and always helpful. All the fundamentals of the career are explained, including historical context, career paths, agencies, the home office, finance and marketing. In addition, the book is highly technology savvy, with sections on computers and machine translation. It was a pleasure to read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Resource for Translators of All Levels, June 10, 2009
By Molly (New Orleans, LA) - See all my reviews
Roger Chriss is a true industry professional. He has perspective on so many different facets of the job of a translator, whether a freelancer or in-house linguist, and generously shares them abundantly in this book. Not only does he give great insights into the life of a translator and how to do it successfully, but also provides the perspective of clients and agencies with whom the translator interfaces. Big picture and insider details - this book covers it all. Ideal for people interested in getting into translation, just getting started in it, or even for the established translator, it offers lots of tips and guidelines to enhance professionalism and effectiveness in this career path. Very thorough and well-informed, easy to read straight through or to consult as a reference.
