5.0 out of 5 stars STRAIGHT FORWARD ROCK MUSIC!!
Transmatic is a great straight forward rock band! They sound like a mix of Matchbox 20, Goo Goo Dolls, and Aerosmith. If you like non-stop rock, not too hard, but straight ahead, with a couple ballads, and enjoy the bands mentioned earlier, you will like Transmatic. The stand out tracks are their first single "Blindspot", a great modern rock song, with a twist of alternative sound to it. "Come", which will definitly be the next single, because it has all the right ingredients of a hit-song, and sounds alot like Aerosmith, and I'm sure if they came out with this exact song, it would be a smash-hit single for them. My personal favorite is track-9, "Welcome to the life", also sounds like it could hit, but the radio stations will have to bleep the F-word in the chorus. Track-5, "face to face"& 8-"the problem" also sound like hit songs! Then you have two very nice rock ballads with tracks 6 & 7 "impossible", and "need to know". This record rocks, and reminds me of Matchbox 20's debut record. It has that rock all-the-way-through theme to it. I would highly recomend this record to anyone who likes rock music! Not metal, alternative, or anything else except good straight forward, timeless rock music. If this description fits your genre of music, you should buy this record for sure!

4.0 out of 5 stars Unoriginal?, May 16, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Transmatic (Audio CD)
It's odd that the person who complains that this is "bland" and "unoriginal" saw them at a Michelle Branch concert!?!? Talk about bland .... Anyway, the music isn't anything earthshaking or innovative - as if anything on the radio these days is - but, it's 11 well written catchy songs. I can't tell some bands apart anymore - it all sounds the same! (Bizkit, Korn.... Nickelback/Disturbed/etc) It would be a nice change to hear this on the radio. And if it helps to kill the boy bands as well, it can't be bad!

Favorites: "come", "Blind Spot", "Impossible", "Face to face"...

FYI- they say "[the f word" a few times, that's why it has an advisory. Hardly Marilyn Manson....

5.0 out of 5 stars Mellow Rock A Disaster??, September 9, 2005
This review is from: Transmatic (Audio CD)
I notice a couple of bad reviews on this album, and one review condemning it because it is mellow rock...First of all, when I heard the song "Blind Spot" while watching the movie National Lampoon's Van Wilder, I thought it would be worth a try to see if this band had put anything else out worth listening to. After buying this album on Amazon.com and listening to it on a trip that I took it really shocked me that this band hasnt made it big. The music itself is rather mellow but I dont think the band was pitching to the majority of the punk/ heavy alternative crowd to begin with. Transmatic seems to fall more along the lines of post-grunge which could be categorized with a band like Eve 6 who has been known to put out some rather passive tunes like "Here's To the Night" for example, but still a great band.. Anyhow, the lyrics tell a story that most of us can relate to and the lead singer's distinctive voice is what makes this band a little more unique to the rock crowd..They definately dont sound like your everyday, played out on the radio rock band...This album is definately worth checking out if you appreciate mild rock in which the words can be understood and are not thrown slurridly at a thousand decibels...

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome, June 21, 2002

You don't hear many bands like this with all the nu-metal going on nowadays. It certainly is a breath of fresh air to hear Transmatic. They remind me of bands like Jars of Clay and Athenaeum. If you like either of those or if you want to hear some catchy music, go buy this album now!!

joe mon has really come into his own with his vocal style and lyrical ability. A mellow yet gritty sound, I THORoughly enjoy the album. I am looking forward to seeing the band live in INDY this weekend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Boring??? You gotta be kidding me!, December 15, 2006
This review is from: Transmatic (Audio CD)
After hearing the bands 5 song EP I decided to buy the album and am I ever glad I did. The album rocks, all 10 songs, let them run. The lead singer's vocals are so distinct and powerful that it draws you into the words which are very meaningful and easy to relate to. The lead guitarist Zak I believe is his name has now moved on to form a new band called "The Virgin Millionaires" which is also great music. The Transmatic album came out at a time when there were so many bands like them coming out that they became pigeon-holed into the whole Eve6, Matchbox 20, Everclear, mold. However these guys do not conform, they rock!

Slick guitar riffs from Zak coupled with the awesome vocals from Joey Fingers makes this album a must have, and for the price, you can't beat it! It is also available on iTunes but why buy files when you can own something tangible for less money? The music speaks for itself I have had this in my CD player for 3 weeks now and just let it run. I know all the words and find myself trying to match the magic that Joey Fingers exudes, but frankly, that is impossible.

Do yourself or someone you love a favor, pick up a copy of this album and just listen, listen to these four guys give you everything they got for 10 songs and tell me that it was not enjoyable. So much crappy music in the world today, give the gift of Transmatic to someone you care for and save them from the screaming EMO filth that plagues radio stations today.

2.0 out of 5 stars A Lesson in Unoriginality, March 12, 2002
By
rrhallqu (Durham, NC USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Transmatic (Audio CD)
Having heard Transmatic open for Michelle Branch recently, I kind of liked their sound and decided to buy their album, which was a poor decision. Their sound, much like the name of their band, is generic to the point of being ubiquitous. As a result, their songs aren't painful to listen to, but they're just so bland. They seem to have some promise, and their lyrics are at times quite interesting, but then they somehow manage to squander all of this over the course of the album and leave only a wannabe Matchbox 20 or Googoo Dolls sort of sound in their wake.

With a lot of albums, it's kind of fun to find the tracks that didn't get radio play but are nonetheless pretty good. With Transmatic, when they are at their best they only reach this level of musicianship, and they never seem to bring together the sort of strong coherent sound they would need to survive in the world of pop/rock. This album is not a complete disaster, but I, for one, would not spend my money on it if given the choice to do it over again.

I am in shock of how boring this music is. I can't believe major labels are still signing bands that sound this lame!?! When will good original, dare I say 'groundbreaking', bands start getting signed to majors? Or are the majors to scared to take a risk? This band is not a risk. This band is part of a gigantic group of stagnant music that makes bright new bands cringe. The dinosaurs of rock music.
