This review is from: Transmigration (Audio CD)
1993's Transmigration was the debut album from German gothic metal band Crematory. While the band's later albums moved in a more accessible direction, Transmigration was essentially a death metal album. Sure, it had keyboards, doomy riffs, and other gothic elements, but it was a death metal album just the same. It's incredibly heavy and the vocals are exclusively growled. There are no clean vocals or female vocal parts. I see a lot of similarities to early Paradise Lost albums in that both bands started with a simpler and heavier sound and progressed into something quite different with later releases.
It's not as impressive as the band's later efforts, but Transmigration is where the Crematory sound was born, so fans of the band will definitely want to check it out. If you're not familiar with the band, I'd recommend starting with Revolution or Act Seven (Reissue) and working backwards. |
