5.0 out of 5 stars International Business Strategy class - Great Cases
I had to get this book for an international competitive strategy course I took for my MBA. The course was really good. The text is a little dry, but the supplemental readings are actually quite good. The Case studies are excellent. That was the best part about this book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Transnational Mgtmt
The book was helpful in getting through my class because it was a requirement. The book had more cases and readings than actual theory. Which is good because you almost always get theory and less examples. The print is kind of small.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Case Studies and Supplemental Materials, March 13, 2011
By
I am using this book at Northwood University in our International Business course this year (upper division undergraduate / graduate level). The HBR cases are excellent and I was able to also provide my students with the videos accompanying the selected cases we used. The interview quality of the case videos are acceptable, the interviews themselves are exceptional.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good, October 31, 2007
This review is from: Transnational Management: Text, Cases & Readings in Cross-Border Management (Hardcover)
I'm a student halfway through what is probably a mediocre MBA program. This is one of the better texts we've used so far. I have found it to be pleasant and informative reading. I don't understand the disgust communicated in the other reviews.

Thank you for the great deal. I was pleased with the book. It was great condition for it being a hard back. It is one of the books I needed for class this semester. Thank you for the great deal. I would buy from you again.

1.0 out of 5 stars Please. Spare me this book., April 15, 2007

This review is from: Transnational Management: Text, Cases & Readings in Cross-Border Management (Hardcover)
The previous reviewer has it on the mark. I patiently formed my own opinion, and reached just about the same conclusion. I am forced to use this text as one of two final courses in an MBA program to coincide with final projects.

If one hasn't achieved the mindset this book tries to instill, by the time you get this far in a program to use the text, you've already missed the train. Through very long case studies and short chapters, you review everything you ever learned about business. It is so slow and common sensical, you wonder who the book is trying to reach. It has little commentary and presents the idea of transnational organizations as a textbook concept. Boring, frustrating, basic.

I dread this book. The very sight of it makes me cringe and brings on acid reflux. Make sure you get your magnifying glass out, you'll need it. The text is in about a 8 or 9 font. This book may present more of a test of nerves, patience and sanity than it does a convincing or compelling read and study on transnational management.

1.0 out of 5 stars Exactly. "Forced" to use this book, September 27, 2010
This book simply put is a plain torture!

This must be one of the most boring and the worst text books I have ever read in my MBA program.. No wait, not only in my MBA, most boring EVER! I would have never read this book if it was not forced on me by my MBA class.

The author had a very few concepts to talk about in over than 700 pages. I could safely tell you that, the 700 pages could easily be summarized into 10. You form your own idea then of how boring and repetitive the material is. Fine.. "Transnational" is good, other models are not so good, can you please say something else? Can we please move on?! Well, doesn't seem like the author likes to move on, the minute you think he starts talking about a new concept, he goes back and says the same thing he already said in the previous.. mm. may be 50 paragraphs or so.

Please, if you are a professor, look for some other material for your students, they deserve better. If you are a student and you are buying this book though, oh boy, brace yourself for a looong, useless, boring and frustrating class.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very nice case studies, February 21, 2009

This review is from: Transnational Management: Text, Cases & Readings in Cross-Border Management (Hardcover)
This is an information "dense" book. It does have a large variety of cases that support the overall chapter text. It doesn't really work as a "reference" book though (not really intended to be). This is almost like a "Harvard Business Review" textbook as opposed to a "fact-based" text. So if you want some information of the principles of international strategy and some real world examples pick this one up.
