The CD-ROM is an immersion program, so all the instructions are in Spanish. For this reason, younger children who are not so confident with the basics of the language may need adult support. More confident children will quickly pick up what they are expected to do and will be able to work independently through the games. There is also a very useful help option which explains the choice of games in English.
The program includes five modules, each containing a range of games and a song to consolidate the vocabulary that has been introduced. Most of the games can be played at three different levels of difficulty. The games include activities such as identifying fruit, colouring fruit appropriately, pairs games with pictures and words, identifying animals, ordering pictures, setting given times on clocks, and putting objects into a backpack. A wide range of vocabulary is consolidated, such as numbers, the alphabet, animals, objects, times, colours, fruits and vegetables, the weather, transport, and leisure activities. A set of online activities, which can be printed out, will also help to review what children have learned.
KidSpeak Spanish would be a very useful buy for children ages 5 to 12 who are learning Spanish at school or for a parent who wants to introduce their child to a new language. --Amanda York

KidSpeak Spanish,
By A Customer
This review is from: KidSpeak Spanish (CD-ROM)
I had bought Jump Start Spanish and loved it for my 4, 7 and 8 year old and wanted to get another more advanced Spanish software so I bought KidSpeak Spanish. I was so disappointed with it because the narator speaks castillian spanish (the way they speak spanish in Spain). No where on the box nor in the description of the software did it say it was going to be castillian. Castillian spanish is not the common spanish that is used in USA -- buyers beware!...

Low quality, no educational value,

This program was written by an Australian company and merely redistributed by Transparent Language. I supose they must not have had their own product for the 12 and under age group. However, I think they have done a lot of damage to their reputation by putting their name on this product.
The program looks like it was written over ten years ago for Windows 98 with 256 color graphics. It is very cartoony. It reminds me of the very first Putt Putt game--but not as well done. The graphics are so bad that some of the objects in the pictures are unidentifiable. There is a retangular object they have amoung the school supplies which I could never figure out what it was supposed to be. In other pictures there is more than one object in the picture and there is no way of knowing what the vocabulary word is refering to. For example, they have a picture of a bug in a jar. You don't know if the word identifying the picture refers to a bug in a jar, just the bug, or just the jar. This especially problematic in the body parts section. In one picture they show a parrot head which is identified as pico. "Pico" means beak. However, there isn't an arrow pointing to the beak, so the child could just as easily think it means parrot since they identify a couple of other species of birds in the previous section. Same problem when they show a picture of a foot but are refering to the toes, a horse leg when they are just refering to the hooves, etc. Oh, and since this is an "immersion" program there aren't any English translations to clarify things. I took two years of Spanish in college and although my Spanish is very rusty, I still know a lot of vocabulary words. Even so, I found this program very confusing and the quality was less than of free, online games. This program is not worth $10, much less $40. Save your money. [It is interesting to note that not one of the 5 star reveiwers have reviewed any other products. Their reveiws read more like product descriptions or advertisements than reviews written by people talking about a product their children liked. I'm not saying that these reviews were written by Transparent Language employees. I just find it strange that you would get such nonpersonal, glowing reviews for such a low quality product.]

Kidspeak Spanish is the perfect way to enterain while educating your child. Exposure to a second language is nothing but good and the younger it happens the easier it becomes to learn. In this program there are so many fun games and activities for your child to enjoy. It will teach them some basics like the alphabet, telling time, names of the days and months, simple phrases and sentences, ect. My children really enjoy this and use it all the time. I would recomend this to anyone child it is simply a great product.
