5.0 out of 5 stars Captivating read
I picked up the book and didn't put it down two hours later until I reached the last page. Adventure, cutting edge science, human drama. Great read!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Not a great read
I thought the author's ethical questions at the end of the book were good and food for thought, but I was not impressed with the book as a whole. It was too disjointed, skipping from one thing to another without a good tie-in. I felt the author was trying to impress the reader with his vast range of knowledge. I thought some of the activites of Carras were a little...

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't Stop Reading Till It Was Done, May 3, 2009
This review is from: Transplant (Perfect Paperback)
What an exciting medical thriller! The plot is neatly stitched together(forgive the metaphor). The main character, Dr. Athan Carras, gives the unusually accurate insights of a world-famous heart surgeon--especially since the author is just such a heart surgeon in real life. And while authenticity makes for an interesting novelty (and was why I bought the book in the first place), the novel is exciting and surprising in its own right. I cancelled my weekend plans because I just couldn't put the book down. And in the midst of all this heart-pounding suspense, the novel raised medical ethical issues, the dynamics of career versus family, arrogance versus competence, and winning versus succeeding.

5.0 out of 5 stars What is the life of someone close truly worth?, July 10, 2009
This review is from: Transplant (Perfect Paperback)
What is the life of someone close truly worth? "Transplant" is a medical thriller that asks this question. A doctor is faced with a patient in need of a transplant; the one willing donor is a family member. But the potential donor's life could seriously be jeopardized through the process. "Transplant" makes medical ethics a riveting read from first page to last.

5.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining - to say the least - for more than one reasons..., May 6, 2009
This review is from: Transplant (Perfect Paperback)
The author's imagination takes the reader through a fascinating and entertaining journey.
It also gives (a select few of) us a glimpse of what else the author was hoping to have achieved in his medical career.

5.0 out of 5 stars Extraordinary Medical Thriller, September 21, 2009

There are three requirements I demand in a thriller. The first is that it grips me and doesn't let my attention wander. The second is that I learn some new information and the third is that it challenges my own beliefs and gets me to think outside the box of what I have always believed to be true. Dr. John A. Elefteriades medical thriller "Transplant" elegantly meets all three requirements.

Without giving away too much of the plot, the lead character, world renowned cardiac surgeon Dr. Athan Carras is thrown in a moral quandary when he is asked to perform a heart transplant on the son of an obsessed multimillionaire, Terry Flint. You are swept away in the adventure as you are forced to confront your own moral ethics and what you would do given the circumstances that are revealed in this exciting, fast moving medial thriller.

Dr. John A Elefteriades ranks right up there with Michael Palmer and Robin Cook. As a bonus, Dr. Elefteriades presents you with thought-provoking ethical questions at the end of the books that will get you to reexamine your beliefs about what is necessary to make the leaps needed for medical advancement.

Our bookclub had the pleasure of reading Transplant and had an even greater pleasure in having the author attend our bookclub meeting. This book kept me glued to my seat. An absolute page turner. It's a medical, ethical thriller that keeps you yearning to see what will happen next. Full of excitement and surprises. Forces you to consider what is medically acceptable and who is to decide?

5.0 out of 5 stars Transplant is an excelent book!, August 21, 2009
This review is from: Transplant (Perfect Paperback)
I don't usually read thrillers, haven't read one in a while. This book reminded me a bit of Robin Cook's work. But it is much more thrilling. I loved this book! (If you have trouble getting into this book, keep reading.)

I thought I had it all figured out fairly early, but I didn't. Dr. Elefteriades keeps you enthralled. There is a section in the back of the book to help you understand some of the medical references you'll read. If I hadn't met Dr. Elefteriades, (he's my husband's doctor), I probably wouldn't have read the book. And that would have been a shame. I have recommended this book to everyone I know who enjoys reading and some who don't. It is hard to stop reading and put the book down, so plan to read it all at once if you can.

I hope there will be more thrillers from this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Medical thriller, August 5, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Transplant (Perfect Paperback)
This is a fast paced, medical thriller that is hard to put down, once you start reading it. Also, it finishes with a shocking surprise ending. As a retired surgeon I appreciated the skill of the author in describing many technical details about heart transplant surgery in understandable "Layman's terminology."
