Review

Carole’s book is a poignant and touching story of her personal journey through kidney disease. In this memoir, she describes the good and bad days and the ups and downs of dialysis treatment, waiting for a life-saving kidney transplant, and the road to recovery. Never losing faith that there will be better times ahead, Carole shares just what kept her strong and motivated. Her story will be familiar for anybody who has been down the road with kidney failure, and will uplift and empower those who are just setting foot on that path.

Patricia A. Bucek Executive Director
The Kidney Foundation of Central Pennsylvania

I found Carole's book to be informative, heartfelt and honest in sharing the many challenging symptoms she endured as she went into renal failure and even after her transplant. Equally important, she shared the many medical staff persons who guided her along unknown territory. Her forever upbeat spirit and unwavering faith through it all surely were inspiring. Knowing the active life Carole now leads can be nothing but encouraging to those facing a transplant. The great satisfaction and fulfillment of those who donated their kidneys to folks they didn't know may also encourage others to do likewise.

Finally, the resources a the end of the book can be very helpful, when everything seems so overwhelming, to those who are dealing with the possibility of a kidney transplant.

It is a little hard to be objective I suppose. I have known her husband Don for a some years and have the highest respect for him. I have met Carole a few times, although not for a few years. I was unaware of the book until I saw an ad a few weeks ago. When I ordered the book, I knew it would be good, however, I had do idea that it would simply be outstanding. I wish each person who has experienced kidney failure could have access to it. My failure happened almost 18 months. Since that time, I have received conflicting information from time to time and a large amount of unsolicted advice. Carole's book has helped me and will continue to help me address these issues and other issues since she has experienced them herself. Of course, I would recommend the book to anyone, including family members of an individual who has exerienced kidney failure. Thank you Carole for writing the book and sharing your experiences and thank you Don for your support of Carole's writing efforts and helping her face all of the issues of kidney failure. Seldom do we find a book written by an indiviual who has experienced all of the problems of a disease.
