4.0 out of 5 stars Transylvania Twisted
Take 1500 puns, 500 sight gags, 3 musical numbers, a reference to almost every horror movie, at least 40 impersonations ( jack is the best ) the most confusing townfolk since Blazing Saddles hands down ( or more correctly Hans Up ), loads of cleavage, Robert Vaugn, "The Tall Man", and a special Ghost appearance by Boris Karloff and you have a pretty good movie...

1.0 out of 5 stars Long, Hard Ride
Imagine a movie like Airplane, only with a change of setting. Oh, and the jokes aren't funny. Here's a clue, folks: wacky doesn't equal funny without a little help, and this movie could use more than a little help. It has it's moments, but they aren't worth waiting for.

They could have put in an extra 10 minutes of Bloopers and out takes as a good bonus, and Wide Screen would have made it a topper. A movie that you will find something new in each viewing I'm sure. And remember don't drink anything that will hurt coming out your nose the first time you watch it.

Unlike Transylvania 6-5000, this movie is very funny.

I originally saw this film sortly after it was released the first time on video. I then spent the next couple years trying to find it at a non-rental price. I lucked out shortly after it went out of print.

This movie makes fun of Roger Corman films (especially The Terror), Horror movies, H.P. Lovecraft, and anything else it can get its tenticles upon. It is quite silly in spots. Some parts get a bit corny. Most of the jokes hit home though. I strongly recommend this film. It is a classic comedy that almost no one I have talked to has ever heard of.

The plot is quite simple. Dexter Ward is given the task of retrieving the Book of Ulthar (which is about 3 feet by two feet, yet weighs next to nothing) from the person who checked it out from the Miskatonic Public Library over 20 years ago. Retreval involves a trip to a spooky looking castle in Transylvania. (Actually stock footage from "The Terror".) The rest involves a nubile film star, a vampire (played by Robert Vaughn), his butler (played by Angus Scrimm AKA The Tall Man in the Phantasm movies), three sexy vampires and the great grandson of Victor Von Helsing. There are some interesting cameos, including Forest J. Ackerman (holding a copy of "Famous Monsters of Filmland") and Boris Karloff.

I am glad this is coming out on DVD and VHS again. Now I don't have to worry about someone walking off with my only copy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Horror Hilarity, October 3, 2001

This movie had me hooked from the very beginning with "amateurs." After that I never stopped laughing. The horror puns, spoofs and cliches abound.

I couldn't believe that they had finally released a DVD version. It seems like it had been an eternity waiting for a version that I could keep.

This movie is definitely aimed at horror fans, but others, not in my league of horror fanaticism, have enjoyed it.

This movie is a terrific spoof of vampire and horror movies. Steve Altman is brilliant in his role as Dexter Ward. Highly recommended!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars You gotta love that bowtie., December 23, 2002

This movie is what you'd get if Airplane! had crash-landed in Transylvania. The general plot: A young man must fulfill his Grandfather's dying(?!?) wish to hunt down a rare and dangerous volume of Occult rituals with the aid of a plucky young actress descendant of the man who'd checked out the book. Together, the trio must brave the Transylvanian countryside and the vampiric Count Orlock along with his Tall Man servant (played by Angus Scrim) to regain the book before the count can use it to reserect an ancient, world destroying demon. Lots of site gags, sound gags, bad jokes and psuedo-cameos; more than enough to choke a Frankinstien.

This movie will have your blood laughing. You need to see it several times since there are a lot of old Monster movies spoofed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wonderfully campy in every way, December 19, 1999
An actress/singer and company visit an evil vampire/game show host in Transylvania (hence the title) to recover a sacred book. One of the best that MIRACLE has to offer. Gotta love the music video sequence and the butler is hilarious. Haven't seen it in a while, so the detail on my review might be something short of content.

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable Horror Spoof, May 23, 2011
This review is from: Transylvania Twist (DVD)
Transylvania Twist is a pleasant, enjoyable, and goofy horror spoof. The problem is that the sound on the DVD isn't the best, and I was struggling to hear a lot of the dialogue on my computer. But the movie is good. It sort of reminded me of the Elvira movies. And Jim Wynorski is one of my favorite directors, and this was when he was at the top of his game churning out fun movies left and right. Brinke Stevens even has a cameo, as does Jason, Freddy Krueger, and Leatherface!
