Eyecatching Title,

This is the first indie album I have heard in quite some time that does not sound like a bunch of kids who used to be in a ska band discovering Gang of Four - this is a genuinely good indie rock album. With vocals similar to Jason Loewenstein and rocking music like that of 764-Hero and fellow Up bands of the era, Calling All Monsters takes the best from a great genre and cuts a wide swath through the heaps of boring 80s revivalists currently being marketed as "indie" to impressionable youths. This is a truly great new band who deserves more attention.

Great live band, great album,

I caught these guys a few years ago while on a trip through California, and they tore the place down. A great live band, you can tell they're having fun on stage and are almost more interested in just rocking out than they are concerned with what the audience thinks - which made it one of the most authentic and sincere concerts I've been to. They always put on a good show with some twists thrown in - like a song that has a few bars of intentional feedback - and I make sure to check their tour schedule any time I head back to California.
I agree that the album can't capture the entire feeling of their live show, but the studio also adds something - the cleaner sound brings out the vocals and melodies so they can really be appreciated for the well written pieces they are. I was on amazon to buy a few other albums when I happened to see this on here, and immediately snatched it up - I suggest you do the same. And I'm not even related to anyone in the band.

good tunesmiths, good sound,

There's a flashback thing going on here. You'll be reminded of the best moments of the punk bands of the old days. The songs are good songs. There isn't a dud in the lot, likewise for the band. Everyone here is an integral part of the sound. I would put these guys well ahead of so many of the big names.
I only wish there were some live recordings on here. Some of the energy is lost in the studio. I've heard them live and they have the juice. Recommend expanding fan base to teenage girls, like la John Meyer.
