4.0 out of 5 stars Review of trauma management, December 16, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Trauma Management: An Emergency Medicine Approach, 1e (Hardcover)
An excellent resource with a broad overall coverage of trauma management. Particularly useful when compared to other books on trauma which were written from the standpoint of a surgeon and not an emergency physician. I found sections on prehospital care (which included some contoversial issues such as use of fluid resusciation in penetrating trauma victims) and resuscitation to be particularly useful and covered in more depth than found in a typical EM text. The information on management of specific injuries is good and rounds out the text as a comprehensive resource on trauma but these injuries are covered well in general emergency texts and orthopedic texts. The section on mechanisms of injury is very well done and helpful to anyone treating trauma patients. It helps with understanding the forces involved with injuries and injury patterns particular to certain mechanisms of injury. This book should be a must read for any physician who manages the trauma victim and would add to the knowledge base of most experienced clinicians. It is a particularly good resource for clinicians in a community setting who do not have the benefit of a "trauma team" for help with management decisions.
