CROSS BETWEEN POP, ROCK, JAZZ - RHYTHM W/LIVELY BOUNCE, June 25, 1998

This review is from: Traumatic (Audio CD)
I started my digital CD collection when I was working in Japan (early 1980's). Although I was allowed in the US military exchanges, they only had a small selection. Out in town, I discovered Japan was really big on jazz and had hundreds of titles in CD format. My first two titles were (1) "Memory" by Masaru Imada (Polydor 1984) and (2) "Club Tropicalypso by Masayoshi Takanaka (Kitty 1984). I liked the first better but played them both often. I searched [Amazon.Com] and couldn't find the first artist but I did find "Traumatic" by Takanaka (Amherst 1985). It is similar in style to his earlier CD. If you don't mind a lead guitar that borders on hard rock, you'll like this album. It's sort of a cross between pops, rock, and jazz. The music has electronic rhythm with a lively bounce and disco sound. If you dare crank up the volume and sub woofer, this one will shake your house (too loud for an apartment). Of the nine tracks, I didn't like "China" (Track 2) and "Chase" (Track 7) otherwise it's happy and fun music. Lively!
