Travel Greece, Athens, Mainland, and Greek Islands - illustrated guide, phrasebook, and maps

I found this ebook very useful. I used it mostly as a guide on a walking tour of Athens. I only had a few days in Athens and wanted to see as much as possible. Everything was as described. I also referred to it when making my hotel reservation and when looking for good restaurants.

I took my Kindle 2 with me on my trip to Greece and Portugal. It was a good decision. I used the travel books as a handy resource and I was able to read and listen to my favorite fiction books.

First of all the Kindle does not have network connection in Europe. You cannot buy any book. So prepare early: all the books you will need must be on your Kindle before you depart.

Second, I found the text-to-speech Kindle function very convenient. Listening to a book on airplanes, trains, and buses was a great way to pass time and learn about the country at the same time.

Finally, the kindle can be used as an audio guide, just like an audio guide you find in many museums. This travel guide ebook has a great deal of information about buildings and historical monuments. While visiting Athens' Acropolis, I turned on the text-to-speech for the Parthenon and other structures. I was able to stand next to Parthenon and listen to the lengthy description. I did not even need headphones. The Kindle has its own speakers. I just pressed Kindle speaker against my ear (just as I do with museum audio guides).

All in all, I think Kindle was created for travel guides - light, convenient, and with text-to-speech, it often feels like you have a human tour guide next to you...

I am now in Greece. We have traveled to Athens, Santorini, and Rhodos. We have previously stayed in Paris and Lyon. I have downloaded mobi guides for Paris, Lyon, and Greece to my iPad before going on the trip. I have already published my review for Paris and Lyon guides. Now I am writing the review for the Greece guide. This guide is similar to the other mobi guides. Each place has a map, a list of attractions, a list of restaurants, and plenty of other useful information. The attraction articles are linked to the list and easily accessed. In Athens we only had time to visit acropolis, but we stayed for almost a week on both Santorini and Rhodos. We had time to visit most places recommended by the guide and enjoyed both islands. I will readily recommend mobi guides to others.
