extremely light-weight silk sleep sack with attached stuff sack & pillow slot. the silk fabric feels just wonderful against your skin. it is soft without being slidey like some silks. indeed, as i have seen mentioned in other reviews, this is not the most durable product & it does turn over with you at times.
the first problem is, of course, associated with the weight - less materials equals less weight, but also equals less durability. over time, it develops stretch marks & starts to fall apart along those lines. i actually sleep in it at home all the time, so the durability thing needs to be understood in that context. the second problem happens with nighties or other sleep sacks as well - in short with any tube in your bed or sleeping bag not tacked down at the sides. you can tack it down by using safety pins through the stuff sack & some of the attached ties to whatever is handy - the mattress, the sleeping bag, etc. - if you are so inclined. despite these two problems, i still love this product & am preparing to purchase my third one since i have not found anything comparable that i like better. i like to use it when i travel to keep myself cocooned in this most luxurious feeling fabric regardless of the state of the sheets or blankets i am offered. i use it pulled up to my waist over all my clothes, anytime i will be sitting outdoors when it is cold. at hostels, i use it as a sarong to keep myself decent on the way to the showers. it air dries quite quickly after being washed.

Very comfortable sheet, possibly too slippery to be a safety travel sheet,

This review is from: Grand Trunk Silk Sleep Sack - Single (Misc.)
As other reviews have stated, this sheet is soft and very comfortable. It is also very small and lightweight (good for backpacking). It holds the heat in a little better than I thought it would, if anything though the fabric errors on the side of not being "breathable" enough. To put it another way, you don't want this thing near your skin while trying to sleep on a hot night.
I have so far only used this sheet for one trip (14 nights in central America). For the purpose of sleeping at hostels or hotels where you are not confident in the bed's hygiene I can only give my own experience which is that this sheet didn't work. I believe this was a combination of the sheet being slippery and I being tall (6'4"). Regardless of your height though, you will need to safety pin the corners if you want a chance of protection from the mattress, but for me I often found myself waking up with my face on the mattress. I don't think I'm a particularly restless sleeper. If I had it to do over I'd try to find one without tie-straps that also isn't so slippery. Impossible to beat the small size & weight, and this sheet is very comfortable (and for those wondering, no I did not get ticks/bed bugs/fleas)!

Not what I expected,

I bought this sack to use travleing in lieu of sheets. It is very thin and I think it is best used as a sleeping bag liner. It is also very flimsy and seems ready to rip every time you move. If you are looking for something to put on top of less than desirable bedding then I would search elsewhere.

Grand Trunk Silk Sleep Sack,

Cliff's notes for sleep sack: - Made by Grand Trunk, a high quality gear producer - stuff sack is sewn in to right side of sleeping bag liner - blue color - you can see light through the silk - silk feels thin and delicate - still, this is tough, warm as cotton sheets silk - will need to use a blanket with it in anything but the tropics - trick for putting a pillow into the pocket so you wake up with the pillow still in the pillow pocket - made in China - [...] - says it is machine washable - top side of sleep sack is longer than I expected - side slits can be closed using separate ties on each side

ok, but partially slit down the side,

This silk sack is directed more at the travel community rather than campers. It looks durable, but the top one third of the length is slit down both sides and has ties to hold the sides together if desired. This seems like it would defeat a lot of the additional warmth characteristics. It is like an ankle length dress with a long slit. It allows movement, looks like it covers but really doesn't. My other silk sack is a complete sack.

I bought this for a hut trip but didn't get to go. However, I did get to use it in a youth hostel and it was great to have. It is really small and light so easy to bring along, so I didn't have to rent sheets. And it has a pocket sewn for a pillow, so your face is not directly on a pillow used by others. Or you could stuff that compartment with clothing for a makeshift pillow if you didn't have one. The fabric is light and soft, and there is plenty of leg room.

Color wrong/silk ties misleading,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Grand Trunk Silk Sleep Sack - Single (Misc.)
I bought this for an upcoming trip to Europe, where I plan on a few nights in hostels.
The color stated it would be blue, but it is definitely a forest green. The description said it had "half-slit opening with 4 ties". That sounded like it was sewn completely on one long side, across the bottom, and half-way up the other long side. It is really sewn across the bottom, and half-way up both sides. I don't see how it will be able to keep the warmth in, or keep me from contact with suspect mattresses. The tag inside states it is machine-washable. I wonder if I was sent the correct sleep sack? |
