Keep doing what you do FoF!,
By Justin Yee (Berkeley, California United States) - See all my reviews

Another great EP from a great group of musicians! I'm always amazed at the complexity and unity in all their music. Travel 3 has a less pop, more bass feel to it compared to the other Travel EPs. I try to drum along on my steering wheel while jamming to FoF in my car, but the complex beats throw me off sometimes. At least I can sing along loudly, "Did you lose yourself!?". Not only is the sound a step above current radio buzz, but the lyrics actually make you think too! Another great job by the FoF team! AND, if you can see them live, DO IT because it will show you even more of how much multi-faceted talent, skill, and composition goes into their music!

Saved Best for Last,

Alas, the end has come for the Travel trilogy, and despite what some say, it is a proper closer. Travel II, I think, was just such a different turn for FOF that caught so many people's attention, that everyone's craving more "Slow Your Breath Down" and "Holiday". Travel III does what its predecessor did = take a very different musical turn. The rock is still there, the strings are there, but we are not on a pirate ship this time, and it works wonderfully! What will stand out the most, probably, is "Did You Lose Yourself?", which definitely is a main contender for best song not just of the EP, but of the entire trilogy.

What is up with the bass?,

I agree with an earlier reviewer - why is the bass cranked up so high? When a song pops up from this album in my car mp3 mix it about blows out my speakers. It's a shame because every song is amazing, like Horizon Rainfall (reminds me of A-ha) and Your Day's Not Over (Radiohead'ish).

Great Compliment and Completion of Travel Series,

Travel III definitely takes a different tone from the first two EPs. While Travel I and II were not the same, the third is very distinctly different. That said, I think it compliments and completes the series very well. If you put all three on shuffle, you will find a different sound in each song, but be pleasantly surprised by each. The one criticism I have for this album is the heavy bass. As mentioned in another review, the bass is loud throughout the album, and drowns out much of the higher and lighter sounds. This may have been a mixing/producing error, or they may have overcompensated when looking for a driving sound throughout the album. While it seems appropriate in one sound, it is overbearing in another. If you don't have this complete series, or all of Future of Forestry's work for that matter, you are sincerely missing out. I hope you all enjoy this as much as I did, and tell your friends. FoF is an under-appreciated band IMHO.

A verdant forest,

"Travel III" is the third EP in the "Travel" series by Christian Alternative Rock band Future Of Forestry. Their sound reminds one of Radiohead, U2, and even Arcade Fire.Comprising just 6 songs, the EP starts off with the upbeat "Bold & undelivered", followed by "Working to be loved" with jangly guitars and the chorus "I'm so tired of working so long to be loved". "Protection" has a pulsing danceable beat with shards of guitar and cymbals, while "Horizon rainfall" is quivery and echoey. Closing is the Radiohead-channeling falsetto-sung "Your day's not over", an off-kilter ballad with different movements. My favourite is the melancholic "Did you lose yourself?" which is haunting and beautiful with orchestral flourishes. This EP is so good, I'm going to get the other two.

Don't Travel by Land,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Travel III (Audio CD)
I give Travel III by Future of Forestry two stars out of five. It is a big disappointment compared to their predecessors. It sounds a lot more like Muse and Sigur Ros, which could be a great thing for some fans, but not for me. The vocals are lot more ethereal, which make the words hard to understand and appreciate. Another noticeable problem I have is that the bass and kick drum are cranked up to maximum volume on almost every song. I had to turn down the bass level in my car by 25% just to level out the rest of the sound. Granted, I have only listened to the EP in its entirety once, so my hope is that I will come to like it some day, but I can already tell it does not hold a candle to Travel I and Travel II. My recommendation is to travel by air and sea rather than land.
